ICC Test Championship

1 125 England
2 117 South Africa
3 111 India
4 111 Australia
5 99 Pakistan
6 98 Sri Lanka
7 88 West Indies
8 83 New Zealand
9 8 Bangladesh

Zimbabwe unranked as it has played insufficent games

If Pakistan win the 3rd test v England and South Africa sweep NZ 3-0, South Africa will take over at the top
If Australia beat the West Indies 2-0 or 3-0, we will overtake India as the number 3 nation

If we beat the Windies like you said and South Africa don't clean sweep NZ (maybe winning 2-0 or 1-0 with 2 draws) could Aus become the 2nd ranked test nation or do SA have to lose the series for that to happen?

South Africa need to lose the series, if it is a 1-1 or 0-0 draw and Australia win 3-0, South Africa will be ahead by a fraction of a point

Michael Clarke and AB de Villiers have gone joint-top of the ICC Test batsmen rankings after Kumar Sangakkara slipped from the spot due to a poor return in the Galle Test.

Not surprisingly, Vernon Philander has stormed into the top ten in the bowlers rankings, after taking 21 wickets in three Tests in New Zealand and becoming the second fastest bowler to 50 Test wickets. That means South Africa now have all their three frontline fast bowlers in the top ten, with Dale Steyn still leading the rankings and Morne Morkel in tenth place. Also moving into the top ten is Rangana Herath, who, in Galle, took the first 12-wicket match-haul in a Test since Jason Krejza's in 2008.

After losing in Galle, England must win against Sri Lanka in Colombo to retain their No. 1 ranking. Anything less would see South Africa claim the No. 1 spot. If England lose in Colombo, it would open the door for Australia to overtake them, though they would need to beat West Indies 3-0 to do it.

Why has South Africa played so little cricket?

With our injuries, I'd be pushing for a similar draw to the Proteas next year.
