Loved him in his run as an ODI bowling-allrounder, and think he may have had another year left.

But what is the point of a short stint, taking away from a younger bowler (possibly the guy who got his break in cricket through the format, Nathan Lyon) getting a go?

Totally agree.
Best spinner by far in the BB from the bit that i watched and age should have nothing to do with it. Handy batsman as well.
Lyon a bit unlucky after making a name for himself in the BB but only playing the last game for the Stinkers due to Test commitments worked against him to push for selection although it's a blessing in disguise as it allows him to concentrate on bowling attackingly instead of defensively as is required in T20 although it was attacking style of bowling that game him success in that format if that makes sense. :? ;)
