Obviously Steve Bucknor has long retired and won't be umpiring the final in this World Cup. When was the last time Steve Bucknor didn't umpire a World Cup final?

I had to look that up, and WOW that is a long time..
.1987 Final in Pakistan (last cup with home umpires used)

Correct, and just showed the logevity of the guy. Yes he probably umpired a year too long (but then so did Koertzen), but will be regarded as one of the great umpires the game has had.

Bucknor was once a great, great umpire, but he was around for 5 years too long. Losing your hearing and eye sight isn't fgood for an umpire, and it seemed like he lost both.

Anyone watching the opening ceremony.

Interesting that when they introduced the captains of the 14 participating countries, 13 countries had their national flags but Ireland just had a tiny Cricket Ireland flag.

I know, the theme for 2007 (Game of Love and Unity) wiped the floor of the crap they served up for the current theme song

Broad snared 5-25, and Collingwood took three-fa to go with a half century, as they rolled PANIKSTAN for just over 200

The ICC probably thought it was more appropriate if England wave it.

Just found a picture of the England teams flag bearer.
He would've been tired by the end of it.

The ICC is looking at trimming future World Cups to just 10 teams, but expand the World T20 Championships to 16 teams.

I'm not sure about this one. I know the the games involing the minnows aren't always the best, but in recent cups a couple have caused some big upsets (Kenya in 2003 and Ireland in 2007 spring to mind), and I think the smaller nations need something to strive for if they're to grow the game in their country. The minnows also somewhat break the monotony of playing/watching the teams over and over again.

They'll want to give us and NZ as little matches as possible when we do host something.

West Indies have suffered a double injury blow ahead of the World Cup, with opener Adrian Barath and wicketkeeper Carlton Baugh picking up hamstring injuries that have put them out of action for two to three weeks. Batsman Kirk Edwards and wicketkeeper Devon Thomas have been cleared by the ICC to replace the two players and will join the West Indies squad on Monday.

New Zealand will most likely be without offspinner Nathan McCullum for their first match of the World Cup, against Kenya on Sunday, after he spent two days in hospital with a high fever. McCullum was discharged on Saturday morning, but captain Daniel Vettori said he did not want to risk him for Sunday's match.

Haha agreed, I said the exact same thing.

When we finally get it, they're going to make it with less teams, a lot shorter, and who knows, maybe a stupid new format.
