India – World No. 1

Postby stan » Fri Jan 07, 2011 8:31 am

Just something I thought was interesting. Did anyone see what happened to Australia when our older players retired? We had some plenty of guys over the 30 years mark. So here’s my questions to India, did anyone see that happen. Because have a look at your last test 11:

India

Sehwag – 32
Gambier – 29
Dravid – 37
Tendulkar – 37
Laxman – 36
Pujara - 22
Dhoni – 29
Kahn – 32
Singh – 30
Sharma – 22
Seersath – 27

Even though they are playing good cricket, so was Warne at 37, and McGrath at 37, still the end can come quickly. Just some thought. Have they thought about developing the next generation of players.
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

Shouldnt be to hard to find a dozen players out of a billion people in india.
They have a heap of young talent, unfortunately they are still inflicted with the stigma of not being able to play for india due to class or what region they come from.
Oh wait a minute sounds abit like australia :D

For memory india have a non official quota system. I think india is split into 5 regions and all 5 regions must be represented in the national side by a set quota. I say it is unnoficial because im led to believe as well as the coach and manager there are 5 selectors- which of course represent their zone. These guys obviously have their zone interest above national interest and push their players forward. I read an article a while back where there were a couple of promising kids from mumbai who were on verge of selection but as that zone had its full quota they missed selection. This will plague them for years.
The equivalent in aus would have each state only allowed 3 players in national squad. So half of nsw would have to move interstate to get a game

And because the indian batsmen (dravid, tendulkar, laxman) are treated like demi-gods...

And tendulkar will dominate until he is about 50 :)

They'll have just as big a job replacing Laxman, Dravid and Tendulkar as we have done with Warne, McGrath and Gilchrist (never mind adding the Waughs, Langer and Hayden to that as well).
