We don’t have enough yellow balls to warm up with for a night game

Back to the finals series and whether its a final 3 or 4 as it appears 5 is looking very unlikely. Is it possible that we finish with a final 4 where 1st is automatically promoted to reward them for their effort across the full minor round season. Finals would then be 2 weeks with 1v4 and 2v3 with the winners to going straight into the GF. If 1st makes the GF winner 2vs3 is also promoted, however if 4th wins the winner of the GF is promoted along with 1st. Thoughts??

Interesting concept and probably a reasonable outcome for divisions where the team who finishes top does so easily. But where that outcome could be based purely on percentage with a handful of teams all finishing on equal points or just a couple of points difference, it probably isnt a reasonable outcome.

If a side is good enough, it will win its final against the 4th ranked side and get a spot in the Granny regardless.

We will hopefully only have a top 4 for 1 year, if it goes horribly wrong and the 4th ranked sides go up a div and gets walloped for all of 2022 because they werent ready for the step up, we can chalk it down as the experiment that didnt go as planned.

Agree a good model might be (if two teams are indeed promoted) minor premier + premier (or runner up if those two are the same).

As opposed to when 4th or 5th win it in previous years?

All this finals talk is frustrating - yes because I've basically accepted the fact that 5th place wont get to participate.. but all the proposed formats, it's all about the negatives.

Top spot doesn't get an easy run
Top spot doesn't get a double chance
2nd/3rd have a better opportunity.
What about promotion.

A Grade sides make up what 25% of the competition - there are still B/C/D grades competing who want the chance for success. Just gift the Minor Premier + Grand Finalist or Premier promotion and solve half the issues.
If you're the best side for the season, shouldn't matter what format finals are, and if you do go out early well bad luck - it's no different to cricket where it's straight KO.

What blows my mind more, is the finals are clearly a talking point, yet of all the topics that should/could be discussed and voted upon, we receive a stupid email asking for feedback on arguably the most idiotic suggestion proposed and that's adjusting the interchange numbers for the last month.. with a DUMB reasoning of "players lost fitness during COVID"

******* TURN IT UP!

I think this has happened less than 7% over the past 10 years or something like that.

What i'm confused about is that they said at the start of the year that we could push the season back to the long weekend so why cant we have a top 5 if everything runs smoothly? couldn't we play the grand final on the Saturday the 2nd of October and play a top 5?

Did you just pull a number out of thin air? 8)

Probably rare, I can think of Ingle Farm and Fitzroy in recent times.

Wonder how often the minor premier misses the GF too?

This was before pressure from local councils to get off the grounds at the original agreed dates, so that they can rest and get right for summer seasons.

Then what's the fear factor of 4th and 5th playing finals?

Best team should get the job done.

finals could be 3 weeks.

1v2 winner into GF loser into prelim - at least top 2 sides get double chance

3v4 winner into prelim loser out

only side this impacts really is 5th not playing finals

Last 8 years - A Grade divisions.
56x Grand Finals.
48x Minor Premier has competed
31x Minor Premier has won premiership

18x a side from 4th or 5th reached GF
4x won from a side in 4th or 5th (Walkerville D4 2020, Westminster D5 2014, Fitzroy D6 2019, Mitchell Park D7 2015) = 7% :D

Interestingly, the higher the grade, the more likely the best two sides square off in the GF.
