People may not read the d7 thread http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl ... 6691985790

Wowee, has this happened before? Making way for the Crows? Will they engage The Big Shrek QC to defend them?

Didn't something similar happen to a Wingfield Royals or some similar named club?

My apologies if this is incorrect

Agreed! I for one was interested in those facts and what an idiot that guy is for getting them wrong. There's a big differance between 1912 and 1965.

To Angle Vale, there was a rift between the treasurer and the junior committee.

Each team manager used to collect money per week, this rate varied from team to team as some teams went on end of season camps where others would do things locally.
The Sports & Social Club treasurer insisted all money to get paid into the club and receipted, then dispersed at the end of the season accordingly. The team managers refused to do this and the junior committee supported them which resulted in a shit fight and the junior committee jumping ship and taking a substantial amount of kids with them, they never recovered. It was a lose/lose situation.

probably got his facts from the Ashley Porter/Shadiac shambles. About the same level of accuracy.

Is a very bad situation. Maybe the club themselves should have controlled the troubled players more. Sad day for the players who did nothing wrong. But they can blame the people who run the club for not doing enough to clean it up. We played against Smithfield about 8 years ago. They were hard at it and a good side to play. Things must have changed in the last few years. It all falls back and the people running the club???

There's more than meets the eye mate, I'm sure it will come out in the wash. The people running the club are doing an exceptional job and are fantastic good hearted people, I've heard nothing but excellent reports from opposition clubs that have ventured out there in the past few seasons. With the exception of the Ingle Farm incident of course.

Pretty certain it was in 2002 & 2003 under Dave Sorby.....Agree the games were physical , a bit of push and shove but no knuckle merchants back then....My recollection back then was the "crap" came from elements who attended their matches to "slag" off because its what they do. Today if that is the case that these reprobates are causing the problems along with any players who have an affinity with them, then it does become the responsibility of the Club to see they either adhere to an acceptable code of conduct or disassociate themselves by telling those involved they're not wanted at Smithfield. It's not like they haven't been told and are now crying foul after the fact. If this type of behavior is not heavily penalized and stamped out what happens next time if it someone's son or husband that ends up a corpse because an individual thinks it's okay to go around bashing people. IMO 2015 would be a good time for Smithfield to plead its case to be reinstated and participate in the competition.

One fact that is clearly relevant to all clubs, anyone can turn up to watch a game of footy that are not members of that club. They can say they are supporters, act irresponsibly to the extreme etc but if they do not act as requested clearly then the only course of action by club officials is to request police assistance. Obviously if they are members then the club can act but in a public reserve what else can they do. I would challenge the SAAFL exec to put themselves in this situation without trepidation, I myself as a club official have been hit from behind after trying to calm supporters.
