Went and saw Payneham and Salisbury on the weekend, and I have never seen Jolly play a better game. Definite 3 voter!
And as it turns out the umpires agreed.

The big guy is an out & out star! Gun player who does all the 1%ers & plays with super enthusiasm. Always was great to get around Jols after a goal.
I heard he went ok (or something along that line) & the scattered phone calls & snap chats from him were priceless! He can also hold his form off the field!

I'm glad someone else has mentioned the big guy, but surprised its taken so long. I've said it before that he is the best forward in amateur league and would give my left nut to have him playing in my side again.
If payneham had the luxury of playing him out of the goal square, he would probably have 100 goals to his name already this season.

Big call best forward. From div 3 I would have Cahill higher than him(albeit based on performances I saw in 2011). I agree Jolly is a very good player but I would get more worried standing on a Rae or Heintze as well. I'm sure there are some div 1 forwards I haven't seen up there too.
Might be a good stand alone topic with a poll.

As someone that has played a lot of div1 footy, and still does, and has played with Jolly for 2 seasons, I can tell you he rates as the best in my eyes. When taking into account pure dominance, and importance to the team, I doubt there's one better.
You will not see another bloke literally have 3 guys hanging off him, punching and trying to pull him down, that can still mark the ball. And he does this regularly.
His loyalty to PNU is the only reason he hasn't played higher level.
Definitely rate Heinze up there in my top 3-4, and probably Illman too.

Fair enough. I've only seen Jolly in div 3 so haven't seen him with what was most likely better delivery in div 1 and 2. Heintze is bloody dangerous though whenever the ball is in front of him and in my view harder to stop than Jolly. Pity Heintze can't kick or n my view would play league.

Agree that his best is very very good, but his kicking has also cost games. I do however regard him ad a lower grade bully, as his season in Div 1 was not of the usual Jolly dominance. Even poorer teams in Div 1 have 1 brute defender, and seemed to have his measure.

Fair point, and yes his kicking can let him down at times.
His season in div 1 however was made difficult by the fact that we were a below average team giving him terrible delivery when he played up forward. And the fact that he wound up having to plug holes in the side by playing ruck, on ball, and CHB in quite a few games. Very rarely did he play full games up forward.
But anyway, maybe a separate post would be better talking about who the best big forwards in the comp are?

Jolly definitely is up there and I would put Stephen White from Iggies as one of the better fwds goin round. Very hard man to move and rarely misses and rarely moves from the goal square. Charlie Rae is definitely a gun and I do remember he kicked 7 against Mitcham in the first half of a final.
Drew Lister been a gun for over a decade for ROC and is still up the top of the goalkicking.
Dan Cahill won the goal kicking and association medal in 2011 and is a quality fwd. I'd take Rae over Cahill if I had the choice... It's definitely a good topic to talk about though.

Kicked 5 on Grocke in Div 1 and as further comments mentioned. PNU were bottom and he finished in the top 10 goalkickers in a tough year.

Should I re-name this thread "best forwards in the comp" or merge this with the div 3 thread?
PS: Nick Jolly is a wonderful player to watch. One of the luckiest kids alive as he's pretty much been hand-reared by Macca.
But as has been mentioned, will either kick 10, or 2.8 depending on the day
I remember his first senior game of footy and unfortunately the only time I get to see him play now is in rep games. Great kid to boot.

A 'best forwards' thread would be interesting, as there are good forwards throughout the grades. It would be interesting to see who everyone picks.
My top 2 would be:
Drew Litster and Eric Kells - both have been consistently kicking goals for years in Div 1 and 2. That takes some talent.

Joel Cullen, the Henley captain, would be up there. Has been good when asked to go down back too.

After we lost Ralston in the 1st term we had no one who could match him.....not the tallest but big unit who not only has good hands...but pretty good leg anywhere in the 50...

Drew would have to be considered in the top couple over the last 10 years, given his consistency. Kells no where near for me.. But both are not what they use to be. The question being best forwards in the comp now.....
For me- Jolly (although only playing div 3 I know), Heinze, Cullen, Illman, Alocca
