FWIW they have been in the top 15 clubs in the SAAFL for well over 100 years. Money well spent if they do!!

Who would even know what players in their own clubs get, let alone at other clubs, if indeed they do.

University have categorically denied it forever, so hardly likely going to get everyone getting onto an internet forum giving a truthful answer via a straw poll, of people who do not even play for the club. Just let this one go as no good can come from it and won't prove a bloody thing, no matter who votes or polls. Only those few within the walls at University would know the answer and they are hardly likely to tell anyone here are they. Personally, I have been told no it does not happen and you can only take on face value.

How else can we tell if they are paying without a poll?

If clubs in Div 4 play ridiculous money, do we care? Uni are trying to get back in Div 1. You do not go there without paying.

I find it laughable that narrow minded people have this opinion. It’s just a reflection of your own club’s values. Clubs like SHOC and Uni probably could pay players, but choose not to. Don’t want to. They’d rather play in D2,3,4 or wherever, rather than compromise this fact. I know past and present players and board members at both clubs and they are proud that players play for the sake of playing. Imagine that?! As it happens, both clubs have recently lost a number of players to the lure of the country footy $$. Clubs like yours Shrek will always have a chip on their shoulder because the only way to win a flag is by spending big. This dates back to the days when the SAAFL was meant to be amateur and everyone knew of the ridiculous money spent to get players to Lionel Ave. So what happened when the well ran dry? What a slide! So now as you climb back up, a new rule has come in to stop clubs buying premierships and oops – you cry, “We made a mistake!” Unlike the previous ‘amateur’ and then ‘salary cap’ rules, this one can’t be hidden under the table.
