Time to prove a point.

Right-o

For some time now there has been much conjecture as to whether a div 5 side could beat a D1R side - and just quietly it gives me the shits so lets put this to rest once and for all and actually do it.

Yes, that's right, I'm proposing that we have a scratch match between a div 5 side and a D1R side and see who actually wins.

So who is willing to put their money where their mouths are, eh? ;)

I'm looking for a div1R team that's willing to have a bit of a run around in shortened version of the game, maybe 4 x 10 min quarters in the first week of feb or so.

Do we combine the div 5 team, make it an all-star affair?

Any takers?

If it is a top 5 D1R side, my money is on them. And no... I have no money :P

Mind you, I think the D1R advantage would be their fitness, and 10 min quarters ain't gonna help that.

Would be interested to see if this could actually happen.

No, we'd check their registred games for season 2011 and make sure they've played the majority in reserves.

I can make this work - I know I can 8)

You'll be the D5 trainer? I volunteer my services as runner. Being February, I'll be good for at least a quarter.

Now calling for expressions of interest for the following positions:

1 x D5 coach
1 x D1R runner

21 x D1R players
21 x D5 players

Central, boundary and goal umpires.

Time Keeper.

and if anyone thinks Im kidding, Im not! PM me if you want in on the action, or are willing to help organise this event.

You also need a venue. Houghton springs to mind.

Brahma should get first dibs on putting up a side. A team of the year side wouldn't solve the argument as the div 5 side wouldn't have any weak links. I'm happy to be an umpire to see this go ahead...

If it is a top 5 D1R side, that's where my money would be. Super fit compared to div 5 in my opinion and the skills would be over all par, if not better.

I was thinking of Jabber and LM to umpire, however to be fair (and without disrespect) but you'd probably want at least one umpire that has done the job at a higher level as well.

Am I the only person who couldn't give a toss either way? Does it really matter? At the end of the day you only have to beat the other teams in your Div for that year. Any contrived game outside of the season proper has no merit whatsoever, I don't think Collingwood care who won the internal trial last pre-season the only thing that would matter to them is the fact they lost the GF. I think people need to come to the realisation that they are only playing amateur football and that you should be playing it for the love of football and your club. Its funny how the Div 5 and 6 sides who pay players to play amateur football go on and on about being able to beat a Div 1R side who don't pay anyone (well I hope not anyway)...
