I'm going to apologise in advance to all at Mitchell Park and to anybody else who may take offence to it, and I hope you will understand. I appreciate everything the players, coaches, committee and volunteers have to go through with the clubs who may struggle, and my hat is off to them, BUT..........when I read the title of this thread (after a few sherbets) and I say it with absolutely no malice, nastiness, derision whatsoever - my very first thought was........

QUALIFICATIONS
1. MUST have won a game playing for Mitchell Park
2..................
3..................
4..................

Again sorry, but I p*ssed myself so hard I had to tell someone.

Please take it with a pinch of salt, it was just "THERE".

i understand your comments are based on the hard times assosiated with the lions at the moments, like all clubs go through at some stage but a little known fact that in that decade the lions did win a flag, played in at least 4 finals series, produced players that won leading goal kicker in southern league, country league, assosiation medals and also had a number of players poached by bigger and richer clubs.the club has no juniors, doesnt pay players and like a number of other clubs is surrounded by at least 8 clubs within a 5km radius.they have not folded, they have not merged and they dont complain but keep fighting on.very successful in their own right and they fight on for survival.my hats off to them

After doing a bit of a number crunch, based on your criteria, that would mean a team of well over 120 players. Not really what we were after but keep the suggestions coming.

i have been around footy and football clubs my whole life and nat mcdonnell has been and is in the top three captains i have been assosiated with.he did a wonderful job for me when at the club and hold him in the highest esteem.as for luke,he has had a short fuse which teams used for their advantage and i hold him in the same level as his brother.not many people i respect as much as the boys for everything they do for the club family and friends

That would be a high honour indeed, but we reserved the biggest honour of the night for Nat McDonnell who became a life member of the Mitchell Park Football Club. Nat deserves every accolade that comes his way. He is a wonderful footballer and an even better person.

Furthermore, the McDonnell twins are two of the most genuine people I have ever met through football. Neither are perfect, both have made mistakes on and off the field. Neither would give a fat rats clacker what anyone outside of their family and friends thinks of them. Indeed, the truest testament of their character is how quickly and vehemently the people that know them come to their defense.

Rather than reading sites like this and taking it as gospel, or believing horror stories from the mouths of exaggerated footballers, come down to MPFC next Wednesday the 13th and look Nat and Luke in the eye, shake their hand, have a chat and then you might be able to base your opinions on something resembling fact.

Unfortunately Morell, most people can only gain their opinion of someone on how they act on the footy field... Yes this probably isn't fair but for some of us it's all we can go by...

I can understand that, and for Luke, he has done something incredibly stupid things on the field, no doubt about that.

As for Nat, I really do not understand the criticism.

just curious to what the automatic penalty is for an offence like that??
I dont know these blokes at all but as choccies said, alot of us only get to know a bloke by how they act on the field.
I remember some of the blokes I played against when I was younger I hated with a passion, a few years later played with them and they were some of the best blokes Ive ever met!

If hope your selection criteria for a Brahama Lodge Team of the Decade is just as strict as you are purporting ours should have been. Brahma Lodge are a great footy club and have had a couple of good years results wise on the field, but if you're going to have a crack at MPFC for our supposed thuggish rep you had best get your facts straight:

Every single year BL have had more reports than the MPFC, but don't let facts get in the way of a good story.

He didn't make contact with him and it was more of a glancing kick, but you're right, I thought he was lucky to only get 2 matches for what was a pretty ordinary thing to do. I think Luke has improved this year, we struggled and struggled and were obviously very frustrated. Luke played nearly every game, including some B Grade games and was a complete saint.

Mate if that was the game agaisnt Paralowie a few seasons ago at your ground it was nothing like that. I was there watching some mates play and it happend right in front of us.
Shane Hailes tackles Luke who hets caught holding the ball. Shane falls to the ground in the tackle and when Luke got up, Shane was still on the ground. Luke took a full blooded kick at Shane who was lucky enought to roll out of the way.
Lucky Shane didnt belt him.
That is the truth.

Yeah I was playing and would have been 15m from it. The Paralowie player tackled Luke who got pinged for HTB, Luke got up quicker and the Paralowie player then grabbed at Luke's lower leg. Luke swiped/kicked at him with his leg and missed. It wasn't full blooded boot but it wasn't exactly a flick either.

It was one of the stupidest things I have seen someone do. Definitely deserved a few weeks on the sidelines but it wasn't like he took a run up and punted his head like a football, which is what I think a few people think might have happened.

The Paralowie bloke did get up and try and belt him, and rightly so.

Whatever. Its done and dusted.

Still don't get what this has to do with Nat or our team of the decade....
