There seems to be a fair bit of angst with the League on a couple of fronts (e.g. accountability, constitutional reform, costs). Not living in Adelaide, I am obviously not able to gauge the feeling on a day-to-day basis but I am wondering if anything major will come out of it.
In the past 15 years, grassroots cricket in other states (e.g. Vic and WA) seem to be contracting in terms of the number of associations servicing an increasing number of clubs. On the cricket forums on this website, there have even been suggestions of an all-turf association (the ATCA) plus one or two hard wicket comps (either metro-wide or else North and South based competitions) instead of the current set-up in Adelaide.
Having one association servicing the bulk of the metropolitan area in a 'footy city' is unusual. Melbourne has around six to eight comps, Hobart has two and Perth has three. Can anyone see down the track the situation where Adelaide is serviced by a second 'grass roots' competition (ie. someone other than the SAAFL) and how would it would look in terms of set-up and geography.
I'm just putting this out there to see how the football community feel based on the mood that I am perceiving.
