The SAAFL released Ashley Porter's new book last night "We are the Amateurs"

The title is right for the book

1st one to spot 100 mistakes wins.

I'll begin We did not wear painted sugar sack jumpers in 1928 that was in 1946-47

At no stage did he contact myself as club historian to verify the facts!!!!!!!

Let the counting begin

Start listing them. Might have to reset the bar to 200 mistakes

Might be the same "proof reader" as the one who did the Adelaide Crows Heritage jumper this year.

Not sure whether they're mistakes as such but I'm sure a 10 year old wrote some of those club dittys. They provide absolutely no insight into the clubs and their history and they may have well as started "Well this one time, at band camp..."

EG: Hope Valleys bit starts off something to to the tune of:

A few years ago, the Hope Valley football club decided to build an icebath so the U18 coach Robert Stopforth and a few players banded together on a saturday and built one.

WTF?

Real story: In October 2008, as a condition of FC taking up the head trainers position at the club - an ice bath was built in the changerooms.

But how the hell does this make up a prominent part of the the history of the HVFC??? Then it goes on about how we fell from div 2 to div 7 in four years????? and that we're so poor we have to deliver phone books to get by....

At the top of each clubs bit, there is a bit of a history in terms of highest grade played, premierhips and medallists, every one elses is in bold - ours was not, but in highest grade played it said division 3? Yet we fell from div 2...

PAOC's starts off by saying they've never had a proper committee - didn't that please Jimmy

Every club was "given the opportunity" to take some to resell. I think the rrp is $50

Every club was given 3 copies per team with the hope that they would sell them. Some club were returning their books as they were not required. Books can be purchased at the SAAFL for $49.95 if my memory is correct.

The SAAFL assumed that all clubs would take all books and invoiced them accordingly.

They were reminded at the the meeting of the letter the CEO sent all clubs advising them that they could decide at the August Delegates meeting on how many they would have.

Once again they got it horribly wrong and expected all clubs just to roll over and cough up the money.

WRONG AGAIN SHERLOCK.

When will they learn?????????????????????

I didn't realise the purchase price.

For the (lack of accurate) club content, it's far too much to be paying.

The interviews with the likes of Bob Neil etc...were good though.

Having said that, Yep, I'll end up buying one, despite my critisisms of it...

I took all ours before I had a chance to read it

Fortunately, under South Australia's consumer laws, you can return any faulty goods with a full refund
