I've always wondered why they never had an O.C team...
Could be interesting for clubs like Kenilworth and Unley if it eventuates...

almost certain if they enter the league they will be a merge with Unley Jets. in speaking to a guy from unley this is what they are trying to get going.
remember though Mercedes havent actually played footy at the school for that many years so its about the right timing.

I think mitchell park should knock on mercedes door with cap in hand if mercedes are looking for a home.

strange..i must have been dreaming when i had to coach them for 2 nights last year..they have school football and lots of players..and i dont see why they would start in the saafl and merge..surely they would want to start as their own entity?

I think there is more chance of Plympton merging with Morphettville Park than Mitchell Park and Mercedes joining forces.

morphettville park and mitchell park have more in common
it wont happen tho for a number of reasons which is sad really because the two teams together would be alot more competive than what they are at the moment

i had never considered that one deeman but now you mention it..its an interesting idea..i dont think mitchell park are in a state where they would be looking to merge though..they are 5-6 players away(if none of their best are out or injured) from a team who will win lots of games in div 7 i reckon..sumner looks to be a good pick up

It was tongue in cheek as Mercedes and Mitchell Park have nothing in common.
Mitchell Park are the weakest club in the area and would be the Fitzroy in any merger. Of all the clubs, only Westminter would consider moving their operations, due to their close proximity to the school.
I don't see any of the three clubs that border the race course looking for a merger any time soon.

Great just what we need another team in the SAAFL putting a drain on resourses probably with no facilities and will take players from other clubs to support themselves thus weaking another club.
For once the league needs to be strong and say NO!!!!!.
It serves no purpose. Just look at the clubs that are stuggling now in the league. We have already lost one this year with several others on the brink.
If you want to play go join a club that already exists and not start another one out of self interest!!!!!!

a good club wouldn't fold though... if clubs are losing that many players, something is not right at that club, and maybe don't deserve to be in the league

Would be interesting to see if they do get a side up.
Watched a lot of their 1st XVIII games in about 04 and 05.
Typical soccer based school in that they all grizzled all game and had a "what about me" complex, but when they concentrated on the footy they could actually play a bit.
Mulvahill, Shads, Gilly, Bilby, Madsen, Hussey, Canale and Kardachi. These guys could all form the basis of a fairly good lower Div side. IF they could pull in the guys who played in the old Wednesday night comp pre 04 (the Way brothers come to mind) as well as some of the more recent school leavers I recon they could put together a good side.
Will be interesting to see if these guys all come back together to try and build a school based side again or if they are happy to stay off playing footy with the clubs they've been at for the last 5 years.
And as other have posted, where will they base their club? How are they going to get the $25,000-ish it costs to put a side on the field each year? etc...
Good luck to them if they do!

You missed the point. So sit back and listen.
When Blackfriars O.S. came into the league they had no players & no ground.
They were hoping to use St Dominics old ground and recruit players from other SAAFL clubs whose players were Old Scholars.
As a result we lost out entire U/16 team at the end of the season as 90% of the side were students of the school. This had a dramatic effect on our club 3 years later as we had no juniors coming through. Other clubs nearby were also affected eg: Gaza, Walkerville, Fitzroy and to a lesser extent Ovingham. The club should never have been allowed to start. The area is already saturated with clubs. At the end of 2003 we lost our entire U/17 side to St Pauls O.S. as once again 90% of the side were students. All of these players did their entire juniors with us.
District clubs put a lot of work into junior programs which Schools don't then they come along and reap the rewards
The point I am making you don't have to be doing anything wrong but could have your future stolen from you by self interest groups.
Several Old Scholar clubs have started up over the years. Never gone any where in the league and continually drain other clubs of players.
We don't need another one starting taking both Senior & Junior players from other clubs.
As I stated before join a current club and get involved, but don't destroy others along the way!!

well i'm assuming your club is broadview...
i sympathise as district clubs do put a lot of work into their juniors...howver if a good link is created bewteen the juniors and seniors, the juniors will stick around. just beacuse a player goes to a school, doesn't mean they will play for the old scholar's team...SMOSH is a good examply of this. a lot of football players at st michael's play for henley, pt districts, flinders park, portland, north haven, etc.... few players end up going on to play at the old scholars team...
SMOSH do offer juniors btw.

Just stumbled across this thread and felt a response was in order.
I'm the President of BOSFC and have been since the start and was asked by a lad named Chris Caporaso who was the founder of BOSFC in 2005 to help him get the club up and running.
When we came into the league there were players and there was a ground. We were not " .. hoping to use St Dominics old ground". Blackfriars School holds the lease of Park 2, and has done so for i think 40 years, and that is where we were going to and in fact do play.
Yes players have come from 'actively' playing at other clubs as they do between all clubs and leagues every year. Should all clearances be banned or does that not come under your defintion of 'self interest'?
12 players have left our club in the last 3 years to move to other clubs with financial incentives. We roll with the punches on that one as we know we cant compete, nor should we have to.
Fitzroy have had the most numbers come to BOSFC over 5 years. However, during the pre season we played practice games against them with a view to do so in the future due to the link between both clubs due to the school and juniors.
Let me guarantee you that the school does not reap the reward of what is happening at BOSFC. The players, sponsors, supporteres and committee reap the reward. I know first hand the work that goes into starting a club to develop a link between old scholars and their mates.
As for " ... future stolen from you by self interest groups" and old scholars clubs " ...Never gone any where in the league" what a load of bollocks. Maybe your measure of success is where you are in the pecking order. If so, not a view of success that I share. You say join a current club and get involved, i wonder whether i'd actually be welcome at your club.
