just my opinion

we sit back and wonder why the numbers playing footy are going down.why so many people are walking away from the game.this great game of ours is the best game in the world that not only has the skill, hardness and talented athletes that all other sports want but the teaching, educating, mentoring and discipline that helps these great young men into the future fathers, coaches and mentors of our future young men.so why are people staying away?take one look at the kind of men we have running the saafl.self opionated, ego driven people who have their brains and thoughts and decision making ideas so far from reality that they are the laughing stock of sa.if for one minute they remembered why they do the job,who they actually are their to serve and got out among the common people who go to footy play footy and support footy, just maybe they would make the right decisions.even just one would be a start.do us all a favour and just go play lawn bowls somewhere and give the game back to the people.

My 2 cents....

I'm not disputing your comments, but I know of many people who've had to give it away because of work commitments. And then there are those that could play Saturday's but are self employed. And then there are those that want to pursue the multitude of options available that my father didn't have in his day.

agree with all your points mate, and understand that todays life is not getting any easier, but my points were more about the self indulging, careless and just plain stupid desicions that are made by the people who have been intrusted to run our game, not theirs.but i do hear and agree with what you are saying as well

dee man why dont you elaborate a bit. i think the saafl is in the best condition (competition wise) that it has been for a long time if not ever. look through the grades thay are mainly very close with many going to round 18 to decide finalists. if its admin you are concerned about then join a club(become their delegate) and try and fix it. :o

DeeMan, you have the chance to make a difference by getting involved, have a go and see if you can do anything or everything better. Actions speak louder than words!

Everyone is entitled to an opinon dee man, but one can't help but wonder what "injustice" you have seen (or had imposed upon you) to throw this up.

Personally, I think this is a troll.

SAAFL is a wonderful competition with thousands of people involved every Saturday in our great game. Sure - problems exist but overall - it's working.

I respectfully think this is some personal agenda - should be removed, before it gets ugly.

yes guys,
the competition thru the divisions is excellent,to the point that in most grades the final make ups wont be known to the last game.
do i have an agenda,no
am i the mouth piece for someone else ,no
no,im just someone who loves, like all of you the game
if,as is being suggested that im totally wrong, lucky it was only my opion
but if everybody thinks administrators are doing such a great job,why are over 50% of the threads throughout the divisions complaints about head office
as for running for office at one of the clubs or at head office,i would not wish this on any club
as i said, just my opion, like its only you guys opion

Times are changing, to own a home in this day and age, the traditional 38 hour working week is not suffice! to raise a family, two average jobs at 38 hours a week is not enough!

Sounds more to me like you just want to have a dig at the way the Amateur League is run rather than understand why people aren't playing the game...

The way the Amateur League runs and what happens in the boardroom would have little consequence or care factor on the majority of people involved in amateur footy who simply turn up twice a week to train and once on a Saturday to play. They wouldn't know the brown stuff from chalk but simply want to have a kick with their mates.

So are you saying that the decisions of the amateur league are directly turning people away from the game DM? I agree with TT, you probably need to elaborate a bit on what decisions are causing this?

dee man, the people that run the saafl have to be business men first, that has to be a truth. if they know anything about footy [ or running a footy club ] that is a bonus.
the promotion [and greater support] of the game must come from the clubs [who in the end have the greater say in the running of the league, if they have the guts to voice it #] this comes by having a strong involvement in the community and [ hopefully ] a strong junior program.
the one thing that i admire about country footy is that it is a day out for the whole family [footy and netball ] and i still cannot work out why footy clubs in town do not try to get netball involved within their structures
as others have stated there are many reasons for some people not playing [ or continuing to play ] footy but as i see it the numbers are still healthy. can't remember the number of clubs in saafl but it's a few and each has it's own interests at heart [as they should ] .the league has to look after the interests of the competition and sometimes that means some toes will be stepped on and sometimes they will get it wrong, but as i see it it mostly is heading in the right direction

#the clubs are the "dog", the admin the "tail" . it's up to the "dog" to decide who is wagging who

end of rant :D

Should have been a politician Moz, 68 clubs in the SAAFL. See ya, off to golf now!
