Sad passing of a Great bloke and Footballer

Postby Top End » Fri Jun 11, 2010 2:12 am

Sadly last Sunday night former Ferryden Park, Riverside and Porland player and hard as nails defender Steve Kerrison lost his battle with cancer after a 7 year battle. His funeral is at 63 Golden Grove Road, Golden Grove in the morning at 10.30am, Friday the 11th. A multiple Premiership player with Riverside in the 80's and 90's and Medal winner in the lower grades after his A Grade career had finished. "Kerro" will be sadly missed by everyone who played with and against him, although if you played against him, he would have run through brick walls for his team and team mates and if you were in the way then bad luck. Never dirty but just hard as nails and an absolute magnificent man, sadly missed.

Sad to also note the passing of Reg Mead, former premiership coach of the Ovingham Football Club. What a true gentleman and a terrific footy mind, coached premierships in 1962 & 1965.
All past players of that era would be well aware of the impact Reg had at this club.
RIP Reg, well played!

This is probably a good place to remind people not to announce deaths on here of local footballers when they have only just passed away.

Please wait at least 3 or 4 days, or alternatively until a death notice has been printed in a local newspaper or the Advertiser.

There was a waiting period of 5 days since last Sunday since the unfortuante passing of Steve Kerrison before the announcement was posted. The post "clearly" indicates that there was a Funeral at 10.30am this morning for any of the former team mates or football friends that Steve had through predominately 2 Clubs, in Ferryden Park and Riverside. Whilst your point has been noted, please read more carefully as there was the obligatory time given before wanting to show respect and tell people of the Funeral in case they wished to attend and did not know.

It wasn't directed at you mate, it was a general reminder.

Played against Kerro in his days at Riverside. Even stood him now & then. Hard but fair player & good for a yarn during the game & a beer afterwards. RIP
