What a joke!!!! The league has to show some balls now and tell them it is over.
Not fair to the rest of the competition for some sides to rack up a cricket score and others not. This will go a long way to deciding finals spots and percentage.
IT MUST END NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ovingaham's place in the competition aside, a mercy rule, FC - what, where and who introduced the "mercy rule"? and while you're qualifying the answers for the first three questions, where's the precedent ever been set for such?Footy Chick wrote:or enforce the mercy rule on the games they have played

but I also agree, as much as it's sad to see a club go, after how hard they fought to stay afloat last year - enough is enough.

this would potentially help struggling clubs like Ovingham, yet curb affluent clubs like Adelaide Uni..
This may also allow the league to structure-
Div 1- A & B grade
C1- C grade
right down through to Div 7/C7.
What do people think of the concept- would work better than a salary cap.

What do you want to 'even the competition" up for. Whatever happened to survival of the fittest and all that hoohaha? Are we becoming that weak as a society that we need to keep initiatives from moving ahead so we can keep those in the race that can't keep up.Punk Rooster wrote:would there be any merit in "evening up the competition", by restricting clubs to 3 sides- A, & C grade?

I didn't take it as an anti-blacks slap but let's just say the AUFC & Fitzroy both sacrificed a team each and sent them over to Ovingham to play footy. The real question is would that solve their long term problems. The question that needs to be asked and answered before handicapping the system is why can't they attract and retain players/members?.Punk Rooster wrote:well Blacks, football has become a socialist competition at the highest level, when it's probably needed more at a grass roots level.
It's just an idea thrown up- I'm not on the executive Committee or anything, but wonder what good it is for football to have a side like Uni, with 10 or so + teams, yet a club like Ovingham is on the brink of folding.
This is not an anti-Blacks campaign, but I do wonder what can be done to save the smaller clubs.
& I'd rather see survival of the fittest at the highest level, not the lowest.

Well saidsheeds wrote:yeh that would work Punk - I can just see all the leftover Uni, PAC & SPOC boys driving off down to Ovingham for a game of footy. Somehow I think these players play at their respective clubs because they WANT to - like everybody else plays at their respective clubs for the same reason. If there are not enough players who WANT to play for a club it folds. Sad, but simple.
The real fact is - is in points of the compass there are too many teams - like Western Suburbs - Portland, Smosh/West Lakes, Rosewater, West Croydon, North Haven, Port Districts, Woodville South - these days, for lots of reasons,(the change in society being the main reason) there just aren't enough players to fill all the teams at all the clubs and maybe the only way for some to become powerful again is to merge a few clubs. No-one likes doing it - but it is probably the only way out for many teams.

As for the comment about restricting Uni - if any club has a good admin and people want to play for them, then they are entitled to field as many sides as they want. Ridiculous idea

the league might embrace it then
