Did ovingham survive ?

noticed on front cover of saafl magazine ovingham footy club had a meeting thursday night to see if it will fold. Does anyone know the results of this meeting?
A few points i feel sad about re Ofc
1. people put their hard earnt cash in to pay bills last year and to keep it bouyant (non ovingham people at that)
2. Heather Sandford was pushed from a club she loved and fought so hard to keep it going for many years.
3. Where are all those saviours now who went there 2-3 years ago and told us how they were gonna build it up and would bleed for the club.
4. If they go under as looks likely, a club about 100 years old will disappear and never return, and that is the whole tragic part of this story.

Correct on every point TT but unfortunately as the old saying goes, "you can lead horses to water but you can't make them drink!"

A lot of people did make an attempt to help them but too much damage had been done and a lot of the players wanted to take the easy road.

I'd better get down there quick and get the Premiership photo off the wall I reckon.

I seem to remember someone called Rupert made a prediction about this very topic well before it happened.
Clever boy our Rupert!
I'm told a couple of the "saviours" are now trying to save North Pines from extinction, all I can say is 'jolly good luck' because once it got hard at Ovies, those same people walked.

What a sad end for Ovingham Football club so sad to hear a club of this great football league go down. But Can the SAAFL help them at all?

Not unless they can bring in a couple of busloads of players from somewhere.
The SAAFL have been very good with this, they have done all in their power but the issue rests on the shoulders of those who have played there over the last 2 or 3 years, most have walked away when they were needed. Simple as that!

The pres/coach was on RPH yesterday morning and he said that this week they were forfieting but next week they should have a team because clubs around the area have offered them players who dont get games for there club, so all may not be lost yet for the Ovingham footy club.

Playing multiple "On Loan" players that are not officially cleared even with the good intentions, opens a whole can of worms for clubs that have lost points for what ever excuse/reason.

I will play the Devil's advocate on this one.
How much help is this club going to get?
Asking clubs for players to be cleared to them to play is not the answer to the problem.
There comes a time when you have to admit reality that your time is up.
Ovies have been struggling for quite a few years now.
Many clubs have folded or merged over the years

Western Warriors
Immanuel O.S.
Port Adelaide United
Woodville Districts
Glandore
Norwood Union
Burnside Kensington
ANZ Bank
Greek
Riverside
Alberton United
Ethelton
STA

None of those clubs were given the help that Ovingham have been. Why is that?

The SAAFL tonite advised that they would be fielding a side this week. But what happens next week.

Time to Bite the Bullet and let them go, It may seem harsh and people will shoot me down but this club has been on borrowed time for too long and it is time to accept the inevitable.

They may have 100 years of existence but that does guarntee you will continue to exist.

One more forfeit and that should be it.

It also messes the other clubs in C1 around as well as effect percentage and possible finals placings.

If the SAAFL had any balls they would call Ovingham's bluff and tell them it is over!!!!!!!

FE, if this was Broadview, you would be fighting "tooth & nail" to maintain your existence too as would we all. The relevance of your query 'why is that' is simple, times have changed, that was a fair while back, this is now. You're sounding a bit like a "jilted lover", yes it causes forfeit problems but don't bag them for having a go!
Re calling their bluff, not sure it's the SAAFL's call, sure they could make it difficult but isn't part of their charter to get people playing football. It is a club decision to be made by those in charge, they'll know when to call it a day.

Once they got rid of Heather Sandford that was the end of the football club.No club can survive by having too few doing too much.If any club does not have a strong and disciplined commitee they have no future. The C SECTION DARKLANDS is the final step towards oblivion for one team clubs like Ovingham,Wingfield Royals and North Pines.
In all respect to the current coach surely they should have been trying to recruit players months ago and not 4 weeks into the season. If they didn't have enough numbers they should have pulled the pin before the season started.

Struggling clubs, desperate for senior players, tend to attract and accept the wrong types of players.

So true and oh so sad!
Problem is compounded when no-one bothers to take notice of past conduct or performances of those same senior players at previous clubs. It's seen as a "quick fix" for success but invariably backfires. The thought of that instant success clouds all of the other problems or tends to encourage people to overlook them.

i handed over 20 squid to help u guys, not much i know, but i would hope that if plympton were in the same situation some bloke would wanna hand over a 20. Ovies seem to be buggered, and it is unfortunate, i have one question though, back when this situation wasnt dire was a merger option put on the table, and of so what clubs concidered it.

because now it seems that years of history are to become just that.
