Mind games

Postby Flipper » Sun Mar 28, 2010 2:10 pm

Heard a great story the other day, not sure if its true but i hope it is. In a GF a teams gun FF comin off a 100 goal season gets shut down, and the opposition gets up in the GF. Apparently the Full back has sung the neighbours theme song to this full forward all day and really got in his head. Would love to hear any similar stories about mind games or really good sledges people have heard of.
It takes real courage to wear PURPLE!!!!!

remember years ago back in victoria had a big game coming up against newport.they had a great centre half foward who we had to shut down to beat.
our centre half back went out on the friday night after doing alot of homework and ended up doing the job by doing his girlfriend.
come the following day, spent it telling the big foward what he had done.being a serious footy player, thought it was all mind games until certain birth marks were explained.big fella got reported ,played no real part in the game and we won.the big fella went on to play alot of afl,,,,minus the girlfriend
we stand as one
we fight as one
we win and lose as one
we are one

 that's a classic.
would love to have seen and heard that happen.
i remember a couple of years ago there was a player filling in for south reserves that was threatening to stab the north adelaide boys in the car park after the game if they went near him. the bloke ended up kicking 7 goals 3 out of the teams 9 goals because nobody really stood up to him. took the mind games a bit far maybe?

In the '80s, we always loved playing at Riverside because we usually beat them

A certain PAOC player, after the first bounce turned around to the full back and asked, in his best Christopher Pyne voice; My daddy drives a Mercedes Benz, what does your daddy drive?

He kicked 8 that day - 6 from free kicks for punches to the back of the head and other similar offences
dedja: Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Going back to the mid-late 90's Kenilworth v Para Hills @ Para Hills. A notorious Kenilworth tough man was coming off the ground and a hero in the crowd yelled "******* YOU FAT C*** GET OFF THE GROUND". The player went over to the Para Hills bench and sat on it and said "Im not leaving until the weak p**** comes here and says it to my face". You guessed it no one came forward,Kenilworth won the game and beat Para Hills in some good finals games over the next 2-3 years. Yes Para Hills are laughing now however we won the battles in tht era.
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

one of the innumerable times i was being called a uni poofter and being punched repeatedly while playing full forward, the full back from tea tree gully was constantly standing on my toes and holding my jumper even while the ball was down the other i turned around and kissed him on the cheek.
he didn't come within a metre for the rest of the game.

Back in Whyalla, a full forward kicked 10 goals against a good side but when he lined at the next week the full back told him that every time he went near the ball he would get belted over the back of the head. First lead, ff got hit in the head, although he got a free kick (but missed) he spent the rest of the game ducking his head and looking over his shoulder. Kicked 0 for the game and the team got beaten.

I reckon if you get beaten by mind games your too weak to be playing in that position, or playing at all.
