Under 17 SAAFL v SFL Association Game - Is This True?

Postby blublurag » Wed Jun 14, 2006 4:51 pm

I have just heard that in the under 17 association game last week that something quite extraordinary happened.

Here it goes...

At half time, the SAAFL side went down into the changerooms, as you do.

Apparently in the SFL, junior teams are not allowed to go into the rooms at half time.

When the half time break was finished, there was no 3 sirens, 2 sirens then 1 siren to go back on the ground. The umpires just started the match. The SAAFL team was still in the changerooms. The SFL kicked 3 goals before the SAAFL team came back on to the ground.

Unbelievable. Apparently the CEO and Chairman of SAAFL were approached but they didn't do anything about it. What are we coming to!!!!

For the record, the SFL won by 16 points. Gee those 3 goals were handy.

If this is the case, these kids would have been absolutley dumbfounded (as I am) that this could happen in any game, let alone an association game. One has to question whether these games should even take place.

duncs7, there were no sirens. They weren't to know the game was starting.

What actually happened was the SFL had kicked 2 goals while no team had come back out, then some SAAFL officials/coaches realised that the game had been started with out them and ran out on the field to find out what was going on. From an SFL player on the field at the time, he said the officials said something along the lines of, cancel those 2 goals now or we take our team and go home right away, so the goals were cancelled and the quarter was started again with the proper remaining score from half time.

I do think it is SAAFL fault though, and the umpires just played to the rules.

SAAFL rules state that there must be 3 sirens so the umpires and officals were ignoring one set of rules to satisfy another. So then the SFL was in the wrong. You could flip it either way. All it comes down to is again piss poor communication by the two leagues.

Also Petoe, it may be within the rules of the SFL. But its hardly in the spirit of the game.

Certainly happened..and the two goals were removed

Not the only controversy of the day...two rules that happened in the sfl but not the saafl were enforced mainly by the sfl umpires

50 metre penalties

ruck circle

Hopefully when we get to play them on our turf we enforce saafl rules...charge the sfl a fee if they dont pay we take the result away...after the match

While we are on U17 does anybody know more about the North Haven Smithfield match that was called off recently

I heard the North Haven coach pulled his team off the ground due to some of the crap Smithfield were dishing out, which really doesn't surprise me at all.

So im not the only one who actually clicked on it!! Whew

Apologies, i read it too fast and i missed the "no" sirens were blown. Wonder if the umpires or matchday officials will get in some trouble for that.

Those rules (touching palyers after taking a mark, ruck circle, immediate kickout from point) aren't applied in the Mid Murray competition either.
They were enforced in our intra-association match last weekend, the players adapted quite well (I'm sure they've seen enough of it in the AFL to know what's going on).
I managed to suck a player in for a 50 metre after taking a mark (goaled from 50 too!), but that, as far as I could tell was the only time they got penalised.
