New SAAFL Publication - Sportsbeat

Noticed there has been no mention of the new mags (if you can call them that as it's all online). Had a look at the Wednesday edition which is scores etc from last week and review of one game. All the best players goalkickers etc plus a couple of articles. Looks like it will kill a bit of time on a slow week. Look forward to see what comes out for the first Friday edition which will supposedly have team chages etc. It has a different feel to the "budget" and may well be a welcome addition to the press/marketing. However it's early days and I think a fair bit of work will be needed to keep it to a good standard.

True enough will be interesting if they can actually get information from clubs for the Friday edition. How many will give their ins and outs?

Most teams are up on the SAAFL website on Thursday night anyway aren't they?

Im already getting complants from the boys at the 'local' who rely on Sportsbeat to find out how teams are going
It was a shit publication for us in the know, but it did extend our league to a different group of people who show interest if they can see scores, tables, etc.....
I doubt the new publication will reach as many readers or interested parties....

I agree. Your average bloke who likes to have a beverage at his local will always have a squizz at the sportsbeat and see how the local clubs are goin. Or even people who move out of there area and end up havin another local will still sus out how the old club is doing.

Being from WA, any news is good news.
My only issue is that I couldn't get it to print out properly or download onto a USB stick so that I could print it out and read on the train to work - that would have made it even better.
Interesting to see what happens over the course of the seson and beyond with the two productions.

Tell them to tell the publican to download 10 or so copies of the Footy Budget on a wednesday night to put on the bar for the locals. Not a lot of effort really to keep the locals in the loop

As if SD!
That would involve effort
With sportsbeat it gets delivered and put on the bar

Geez Ash I reckon getting the Footy Budget is easier to get than Sportsbeat. Rohan or one of us just drives into the Port each week
and picks up 40 copies of the Footy Budget - put them on the bar and sell them. You obviously never had to drive into Tynte Street
to pick up the Sportsbeat. We just had a standing order and picked em up Thursday arvo. Much easier than driving into Nth Adel or
now Thebarton. Put on Bar or Table and sell for $2 - sell like hot cakes and guys put money into end of season trip fund.

The Thursday night sports quiz was always pencilled in for my weekly ritual, now I have to find another excuse to get to the club on Thursdays.

I was talking about at the pub, not the footy club. Sportsbeat gets delivered to pubs and it lets people in the community that arent involved in clubs what is going on with their local team

Sportsbeat used to be great, but all up the crapper last year. Shadiac has only used teh Sportsbeat money to copy what Hosie and Hodges are doing with the Footy Budget anyway. Sportsbeat good but gone now and only really have either the Footy Budget or the thing Shadiac has copied from the other two. At least I guess you get to read a book with the Budget cause our club just has em done each week. No real competition anymore as Budget idea works hands down as it gives us something to read each week. Hey I drink in the Cumberland and Glanville pubs and the Sportsbeat has gone from both of them anyway.

I welcome any magazine on SAAFL but the new mag is far behind the Footy Budget and it will take a few years for it to catch up. Sportsbeat never took up where Football Times left off.
The great thing about the Footy Budget is that it equally treats all grades, except the C1 and down. There is more than D1 in the League and more clubs outside of D1 than in, although we all aspire to reach there. Add in all of the articles and columns and the history section and it is a must read on a Thursday night. In many ways, I'm glad it is independent of Thebarton as it can be
constructively critical
Cant wait for the new Shrek column - hope Hosie has a good sub editor, or alternatively, a good legal firm..................
