Just who is going to be the 10th team in D2??? - NO ONE???

With Edwardstown gone to the SFL and West Lakes electing to go to D3, now Scotch have told the SAAFL they also want to go back to D3 after first electing to stay in D2. This only leaves 9 teams who want to play in D2 in 2009.
Shads and Co then approached Kilburn who finished 3rd in Divy 3 last year to come up and take the vacant spot and they declined, Then they trooped off to Walkerville who have also declined to go - Story has it that Para Hills who finished 5th last year in Divy 3 will be the next asked on Monday.
Could have either Portland or Mitcham who have just come up from Divy 4 playing Div 2 at this rate.
What a shambles. Scotch have to be told they have to stay where they are and cant go back or Kilburn have to be told to come up. This is turning into a bloody raffle.
Might even have Kenilworth or Central United or Ovingham, getting a gig in Div 2 at this rate.
This is a true story with no one in Tynte Street knowing who the 10th team will be in Divy 2 this year because no one wants to be there.

Mate are you not listening - both SMOSH and Scotch have elected to go to Division 3 and technically there is nothing the League can do about it because both finished 9th and 10th last season. No legal address to the problem. The vacancy was caused by Edwardstown who had the sooks and left to play sub standard footy down in the scrubber league. SMOSH and Scotch both finished in the positions that technically sends them directly to Division 3 and both have now accepted to go to Division 3.
When you finish 9th or 10th there is nothing anyone can do to force them to stay there. Scotch originally decided to stay in D2 but they have lost a stack of players to a host of clubs and now have elected to go back to Div 3 as per where they finished at the end of the season. End of story mate - 9 teams stuck in Div 2 and no one YET wants to take up the option from Division 3 to fill the void. And actually they are still at Tynte Street for a while yet because I was in there on Friday to collect paper work. Still all the computers and stuff in place as well sport.

SMOSH don't have to stay up at all gothebombers. They've already accepted their spot in Div 3 and there's nothing the SAAFL can do about it. The previous poster was absolutely correct, the SAAFL will continue top ask clubs to accept nomination in Div 2 and if nobody wants to go up it'll be a 9 team comp.

What a joke this league is becoming.
This is a huge mess 2 months out from the beginning of the season.
This will even put the draw back even further.
Scotch nominated for div 2 and this was accepted by the league so they should be held to that division for season 2009

Probably would not be blaming the League over this one. Nothing they can do. Scotch and SMOSH legally and by the rules of the competition have elected to go to Division 3 because of where they finished last year. Dont see how the League can force them into staying in Div 2. Would be more inclined to have a crack at the sooks from Edwardstown who could not run their club correctly and now find themselves in a second rate scrubber competition. Exactly where they should be anyway to be honest. Let them play in he GSL with the rest of the no hopers

well i guess thatll will **** up the rest of the grades as well then....im sure the saafl will put another team in there just to make up the numbers.do you honestly think that any of these other div 3 clubs or div 4 5 or 6 would go to div 2 to get absolutely creamed, be like the old days when ttg modbury and a few others came in and smashed everyone.this is why i said smosh would stay coz they were 9th... also relax guys it was more of what i think may happen...i dont really thnk the saafl know whats going on anyway coz there still isa few teams that have nom 2 sides thatll be lucky to field one......one of the existing div 2 clubs will have to stay if they cannot find a solution....this is only my opinion

So what is happening with the 9th team in each grade? Weren't they all given the option of staying up?
Does that mean we could have 11 teams in D3?

At THIS stage only 9 teams have nominated for Div 2 and yes 11 have nominated for Div 3. We all know that this will never happen and something will occur to make it a 10 team competition but that is the state of play at the moment Jimmy and nobody knows the answer of how to balance the Divisions out. You can bet one team will want to come up and try to play in Div 2 and just try to stay there. Clubs who believe they are on the up and up will take on the option. Someone like Golden Grove for instance I am sure would give it a crack if given a chance. What an opportunity to a club if they think they can match it. Saves a lot of years of heart ache to jump 2 or 3 grades quickly

no club should be given the option to just jump a division. The 9th placed team in div 2 from 2008 should forced to stay up (who ever that is) they are just glory hunting by nominating for D3

mmm thats interesting saying that...do you really think that gg would want to go to div 2 from div 5....mate that is a massive jump and the difference from div 2 to 3 is massive so why would you think they would want to get killed for possibly two years.....interesting theory.....what club are you with nobods

Yeah - I know. I'm just saying that we came 3rd and would go up a grade if the situation was in D3 not D2. Too much to go up 2 grades
Ovingham would be mad to do it

Maybe Kilburn have a lost a few players because I would have though they would have jumped at the chance.
Problem is that you target a squad for D3 and suddenly you have to play D2 - you would target different players
