Selection Dilemma

Prior to round 4 this year Ovingham player BB was shown the door for continuoly abusing fellow team mates. This is regarded in no doubt at any club as unacceptable. Being a small club and having alot of mates there Barry decided to rekindle his team spirit and was welcomed back to he club.

Unfortunately last weekend vs Phos in a qualifying final BB was back at it. Continuoly abusing team mates when he had a goal kicked on him. A number of his team mates had had enough and reported it to the captain and Vice Captain who in turn consulted with the coach and as a result Barry was without a game on Saturday just gone.

As a result a player who had retired for the year had been called up and asked a favour. This player had some serious personal problems and considered his season over. But when told of the shortage of numbers and suitable add-ins to a strong squad he decided to help the club out and pull the boots on again.

Unfortunately BB hasnt takin this well and has started a Fictitious story about how he did nothing wrong and has been so wrongly done by.

Now people, take into account the fact he has been warned and punished before for these actions and warned of further consequences had he do it again. Do you think it is justifiable to drop a player for these actions iregardless of who replaces him in a club that at times struggles for numbers. And to add to it a team looking for a premiership this season.

the club needs to show strength & discipline- you don't make an example of someone, then it can go down hill from there.

We have shown strength in dropping a good player at a time where we need our strongest squad. I dont think it was going to go any other way other then downhill with Barry.

you can't allow errant players to dictate terms.
2 of my players got reported Sunday- 1 of them has indicated he will retire, the other may have just cost himself a medal at our club.
Another 2 will get given their marching orders (pending a committee meeting), & a few players will be read the riot act.
I've seen enough this year to know where I want the direction of our side to be, & I want to build on the good reputation we have earned as a side. I'm sure Adelaide Uni expected better of us on Sunday, as did our own supporters.

Thats exactly what a good coach has to have. a stearn acertive approach and dont hold back on building a better team/club. This is what we're trying to do at Ovingham. What grade do you coach Punk?

Must be clear expectation of behavior and team rules no matter who the player or what the game importance and consequences is a direct result of his own actions, so no good whinging after the fact, either accept and learn from mistake or move on.

Mate your club has done the right thing. You will never grow as a club if you allow this type of person to hold your club to ransom. Stay firm you may get more long term value and respect than folding now.

In fighting.

Watch what happens to Ovingham once this season is over. Have heard bad things about what happened at Gepps. What will happen to that club when the gypsies disappear? How will they get enough players to fill a team?

Ovies need to look at sustainable avenues of recruiting and keeping players. I think they should merge with Blackfriars. Makes sense geographically and the two clubs would complement eachother well. One has facilities and one has the players.
