Heard Smosh gave Port Districs a beating in a trial on the weekend. Any one know any more about this game?

I thought that SMOSH would be around the mark before this game, but they really impressed me on saturday. I know it's only a trial, but both were played as proper 4 quarter games.
SMOSH B grade started a lot better than Districts. Districts had a decent second half and ended up losing by about 4 goals. SMOSH B grade were impressive, a good combination of big and small players. They usually have a strong B grade, and this year will be no different.
The A grade trial was a close contest until the end of the 2nd quarter, where SMOSH piled on a couple of goals, and a few behinds, going into the half time break with a 3 goal lead i believe. The 3rd quarter was pretty tight, but SMOSH were on top in the last quarter, eventually winning by 7 or 8 goals.
Port were quite wasteful up forward, and is something for them to work on. Clay, Dudley, McDowell and Hopkins were a couple who had reasonable games for PDFC; a few players had quiet games by their standard, and will want to improve this week against Modbury!
SMOSH were very good all day; big side, but fit. Evans, Porplyzia, Rae, plus a few whose names i dont know were impressive for SMOSH. The FF and CHB were good, as was the midfield as a whole...working well all day.
Portland will have to play at their absolute best to beat SMOSH this week in my opinion. SMOSH look set for a good year; fit and firing, and a good bunch of B graders to call upon if required.

GG went out to Salisbury for a triple header trial and there were some mixed results for us. C's/D's played first and to be honest I didn't see alot of goals scored for either side. The B's played at 3pm and despite the fact that our side was made up of mostly C grade and under 18's we had a real dip, as did Salisbury who I believe were down in numbers too and scores were about even I think, but more importantly we had a fair crack for a young squad and I was happy. The A graders were unimpressive in their hit out and Salisbury showed they could have a good year as they easily won this one. We just lacked intensity, our manning up was terrible and we were no threat around goals. Fair to say the coach was unimpressed after the game so we have to turn it around quick before next weeks game against Para Hills. We will get a fair few guys back for round 1 but we certainly looked below average...

I have mentioned it a while back on hear but i think SMOSH are travelling a little better than they are letting on, were a good side last year but were riddled with injury, if they can get a full year out of Ralston, Port Pizza and the like it will go along wat to them being a very good side this year.

cant wait to see how round 1 pans out :D

My info from sat trial is
Smosh = Impressive
Port District = Relegation
Wouldnt read into it to much as a top side in Div3 would want to be beating a relegation bound team from divvy 2. Might make div 3 a western suburbs div next year.

Went down and saw the most of the seaton broken hill trial. Played in good spirit, think it was a memorial match for a player that had died and played at both clubs. Seaton looked young and fit but not overly impressive they were about 6 goals up when i left not sure about the end result.

Yeah the grass was only relaid on saturday morning after being dug out during the week. Thats means theres four big patches on the clubrooms wing, the dugsouts near the boundary line are uneven, and the home runs fence line streches down teh far wing is patchy the entire wing.

Dunno who made the decision, but a very good move IMO - it could have impacted the quality of the game, or worse, had injury implications which no-one wants in round one!

Looking forward to saturday - should be a cracker!

Would be more worried about Seaton staying in division 3, than Port District being relegated backwards at this stage chair, from all accounts. Cant see the Western suburbs showdowns happening anytime soon, especially with Portland also likely to advance into a higher grade in 2012

Ridiculous Call In the Chair, think you are getting a bit carried away in March. IM sure Port Districts will be around the mark in Div 2 and SMOSH a huge chance to finish top 2 or 3. Very interesting game Rnd 1 between Smosh n Portland. Im tipping Smosh may upset the more fancied rivals of Portland this week and possibley Flinders later in the year.

Couldnt agree more and well done to smosh for realisising the dangers that could have come from this game if it went ahead on an unsafe oval, i wouldnt have thought it would be easy to give up a home ground advantage for a round 1 clash with local rivals so hats off to them. Our oval is in great nick at the moment as it has had Districts cricket played on it so is very well looked after.

on a side note

look for the Flinders Vs Mitcham game to be an absolute belter aswell

Didnt' realise flinders were playing mitcham - thats a huge clash! We'll all See where flinders are at as Mitcham are a quality side and can't be underestimated.
