Had a friend who watched the Seaton PNU game on Saturday and said that one of the field umpires went down with an "injury" at half time, and was replaced by another umpire who was,as told to the Teams, of SANFL quality. hence the ump was actually a B grade Seaton player who was completely bias to the Ramblers?!?
Now I've heard Many people complain on here about poor umpiring standards and protocol but surely this is a ridiculous decision and situation! Imagine if the game was close/finals!??

My understanding is that the home team is supposed to supply an emergency umpire (in this case Seaton) - unless the League can supply another 100 odd umpires to act as emergencies I can't see another solution

well obviously it didn't do them any good.

I remember watching a smosh c grade final last year where one of the saafl supplied umpires was a west lakes shore and st michael's teacher. It didn't effect the game what so ever but you would think that saafl umpires shouldn't be able to umpire a game where they have tie's with 1 of the clubs.

Interestingly, I believe this was a Seaton home game played at Payneham - they gave up the home ground advantage because of the Crows game. How much difference would it have made if they did play at Big Al's carpark?

massive difference Seaton play their ground very well, but I haven't rated them as highly as their position on the ladder.

Old Farmer - supplying a boundary ump is no massive issue as the league will always struggle at times and it was known in advance, but what i was saying as it would seem easier for home sides only to have to supply as not all away sides have much of a travelling crowd and find it harder to supply whereas all other games had a full compliment.

I can understand the rule that where the home team provides the emergency umpire. It's a situation that barely occurs.

I think the individual in question was just unlucky that every time there was a PNU free kick, a player obviously got in his sight line and he couldn’t see the free kick.
It was also very clear that our forward wrapped his opponents arms around his own waist & then proceeded to fall on his own prior to the ball arriving.
The remaining uninjured umpire could obviously see that the emergency umpire was unluckily having his sight at the contest blocked at inopportune times & took control of the majority of the field.

Wouldn't this then mean that a side from div 3 would have to fold? Can't see it happening. They would have to come through the ranks?
On another note, how many points would that side carry! 21 players from the SFL.

No one would have to fold, it would just mean 1 clubs gets relegated instead of 2.

Not sure how the points thing would work though, surely there would have to be some sort of allowance for those already on the list.

I'm sure there will be sides lining up to voluntarily drop a division, all the way from Div 3 to Div 7...

It wouldn't necessarily mean it would be 3 down though, it could give opportunity for 3rd or 4th place to go up - as per Glenunga a couple of years ago.

Can't see a grand final not wanting to go up unless it's a C grade side.

Would be a good move to get a strong club like them into the league. Best way to make space would be to merge Portland and Port District.
