wow....that's a tough call. Fair enough to not make it easy for the bloke but surely they wouldn't refuse to clear him all year...surely. What purpose would it serve?

You have to sympathize a bit with Athelstone. Its the second year in a row they've recruited a gun forward and they've jumped ship (Remember Joel Brown from Uraidla last year?). I dont blame them for playing hardball to be honest. Although I have no idea what Gordon is on if you believe what is posted on this forum then he must be getting paid reasonably well. This money could have been used to recruit another quality player. Good on the club for setting a precedent. You cant go jumping ship during the season. If you go to a new club and don't enjoy it (Unless they are exceptional circumstances) then you just have to gut it out for rest of the season.

I dont feel sorry for them one little bit.... i have no sympathy for clubs that try and buy premierships. getting players who are club men to play for the gurnesy is how you do it.

I just had an idea...... Athelstone should say to Gordon when you kick 30 goals we will release you. is this possible or is there a cut off for transfers???

I think the cut off is 1st June...something like that. 30 goals wouldn't help win the flag though

Based on his output in the first 3 games he would be kicking his 30th in Round 18.
But I am sure his output would improve as the season progressed, as we started kicking it to him properly.

There's another issue here, what is it about the Athlestone FC that has a recent recruit supposedly on a fair quid wanting to leave after a short period of time. Somebody said on a recent post that it happened to them last year as well. Perhaps the real issue here is not about Gordon but maybe the big sell Raggies put on when recruiting isn't delivered when all is said and done.... Worth a thought and if there's anything too it, beware potential recruits. Anyway, as I've said before if a club wants to lie down with dogs it'll get fleas.footy_pie wrote:The Gordon issue may be similar to what has happened at PNU recently. After having clearances knocked back for Novi Palmer from an Adelaide Hills club, it had to be resolved at the SANFL tribunal and he will finially play his first game for the Falcons this weekend. Seemed to be a big hassel to go through for a young bloke who just wanted to play footy closer to home.
