Has been around for years, and has always been the same!!! Pays a free kick for anything against the opposition. The worst thing is that the Modbury players now know this and they take dives and make noises when contacted near the footy. I had a guy take a mark in front of me and I put my hands out to stop him from running into me and he flopped to the ground resulting in a 25m penalty that there umpire paid from about 50m away. He is right up there with the TTG and Eastern Park b grade umpires. The thing is the league never do anything about it! I know the whole... without umpires we would not be able to play, but these types of blokes are dead set cheats that ruin the game. The Amatuer league should come and watch a few games with these blokes umpiring, and against a stronger opposition too as the closer the game the worse they get!!!

maybe the league need to grow a pair and ask that the B grade umpires actually turn up to a few trainning sessions and learn how to umpire and the rules the B grade and the C grade is where a lot of cheap stuff goes on and often the umpires lose control of the game because of poor knowledge of the rules and lack of trainning or straight up cheats who know nothing will happen to them

To be fair the first half wasn't umpired too badly. But in the second half it was embarrassing. Have never seen anything like it. To make it worse, a Modbury club official was over heard speaking to their umpire after the game, something along the lines of, "surely there was something you could have done about that". When I heard that, can understand why he goes about it the way he does.

I think on a whole the B grade umpiring hasn't been all that bad this year, not as noticeable as previous years.

Someone needs to get a life, I wonder if this is the same defender who inboxed him on facebook after the kilburn hitout regarding the same picture. You would think they would want to hide after getting 7 kicked on them.

That Club official was whinging all day  he was unhappy their umpire failed in his assignment. Was sitting next to a member of Modbury's A Grade support staff during the Reserves match. Unsolicited he acknowledged that "bad is bad" whomever wears the orange Guernsey. Yes the umpire was a "shocker", but he's not alone. He's not why Modbury lost but could have been if they had won. Just not good enough on the day.

At least he didn't play favourites when "bad calls" were made. That said, the Club has made a change, fresher legs and formal training.........check it out. So sport.....how about you.....up for a change or are you just pissing into the wind....

By the way thanks for coming in after the game and having a beer... (Sarcasm) Who cares you had a footy ball only takes couple of minutes to have a softy or beer!

If you read what I posted....ie...."it didn't matter "who" wore the orange Guernsey ....bad is bad".....(which if the shoe fits includes blokes from any club) It was in response to someone else's post numb-nuts.. The fact your bloke was a "shocker", I also said he wasn't alone......So what's your bloody point....

As for a few beers....I had couple...very nice clubrooms.....could use a longer bar though...(not my words).

That was explained to your playing coach after the game mate. Always had plenty of respect for MFC, and always played a hard fair brand of footy, but there weren't too many positives for them on or off the field on Saturday. Good luck to them for the rest of the year.

When Smosh played us at home a few weeks ago, there was at least 10-15 A graders who came in for a beer after the game. Was really good to see. We do give 2 for 1 schooner vouchers to away teams though so that mey help ;)

Instead of sticking up for him here, do your mate a favour and tell him bestiality could land him in the lockup.

I'm not one to usually have a go at the umpires, and it is good to see some young kids choosing umpiring as a career, but the little Auskicker who umpired the Walkies v PAOC game missed some dead set frees and paid some absolute shockers (both ways). In the 3 quarters that i watched the younger umpire really put in a poor effort with his decision making

On the game, very hard slog on Park 9 for both sides. PAOC up 0.6 to 0.0 at quarter time showed goals were going to be hard to come by. Cats getting a few goals early in the second but when i left the Cats needed 4 gls to 0 in the last to win the game. Just found out PAOC won 5.14 to 4.5. The boys from the Cattery put in a lot of effort from what i saw and hopefully this effort can continue and bring about some wins in the second half of the year.

Great game of footy in trying conditions at the Den yesterday. Hard to get a gauge on the two sides given the wetaher/condition of the oval.

Interesting that D Bird managed to kick a goal from Europe yesterday...? Don't recall seeing the number five running around myself?

PORTLAND
Goal Kickers: G. Shephard 2, D. Davies , D. Bird

Not a day for big forwards but surprising neither Razor Rae or Ben Stokes getting on the scoreboard......

Wouldn't of thought so, has lost too much cattle over the past couple of years, to the extent where a new era dawns at the MFC. I would have thought that what they have achieved over the past 12 years, most clubs would be pretty proud of. Went down around 96-97 from Div 1 to Div 2 and the majority of A Grade walked. That saw them go down year after year to Div 5. Then the junior program of MFC saw a particular good group of players come through and the climb continued all the way to Div 1, where unfortunately they only lasted a year, despite I think winning 6 games. Have been back in Div 2 for 3 years I think, but gradually that strong junior group have gotten old, injured, chased money elsewhere and hence the struggles this year. There are not too many players / clubman who have put what Jol's has into a single club. To think that MFC have achieved all this with a budget probably 1/4 of most amateur clubs is admirable and reflects well on the structure of the club.
There is talk of the return of a few talented senior players next year to help the club out, so time will tell, but with the U18's currently top, the next group of juniors is coming through. If that keeps the club in Div 2 / 3, then the club will be stronger for it.

Modbury have not made finals with the current coach have they? They have been struggling the last three years at least to be consistently competetive in D2. Without knowing the goings on MFC real well, and with all due respect to Jolly, I would be endorsing change at the Hawks. Get a new coach in, bring in some new players. If you keep doing the same thing, you're going to get the same result.
