Being fairly close with a number of FP Boys, I can assure you that there is no stench of arrogance around the place. There is certainly a confidence and a different feeling, but a couple of quality recruits and a much better pre-season seem to be the ingredients for that. Granted a couple of you lads may have ran into some Flinders players who have seemed cocky, but I know for a fact they are well aware it will be a very even and tough comp this year.

Having said that, I Think they will have a reasonable year. Have a lot of quality in all key positions, And Christie will add to an already potent forward line.

And I think one of the portland boys asked about O'Hara. Could be wrong, but i believe he has been training regularly, and should play in their first trial this week.

Can someone confirm or deny Hodges is actually playing footy this year at Portland or is he coaching? There's been talk on here of a forward rah rah rah but who the hell are the Portland faithful on about?

Cant confirm or deny the Hodges one mate but sometimes a couple of us that cant really suit up get stuck into each other about each ones previous years and so on. Example. Damian Leonard will line up round 1 in the 1's in the middle like he dominated a few years back. Wareing will line up for the Magpies then come back to play 1's for portland because he is an absolute marvel and Greig will line up again like he dominated a few years back in the 1's up forward. That type of stuff mate. Nothing too serious ;)

agreed it is a big call, they will have to learn how to win games again tho. but they are still the team to beat in my book.

speaking of humbleness pie. i caught a certain high profile recruit for Portland running his mouth off in Maccas after the races monday.
if it wasn't for his girlfriend pulling him away, he would have bet a bunch of SMOSH lads 12 cartons you guys were gonna win in round 1.

lucky for us she was there. i was already down enough by that stage. but that is some pretty cocky stuff by someone who has never played in div 3, or even a game for his club.[/quote]

Cant speak for the guy that spoke of such positive words at Macca's after the cup but on the other hand. Bugger it, its only round 1. If it was for the flag id say differently. Round one will be unclear for most sides. Nothing wrong with a bit of round 1 banter.

The big man has expressed interest about getting fit and having a kick at the dome this year but nothing has been set in stone yet, think he may have had a little back a couple of weeks ago but its my understanding that he still has plans to suit up, maybe its worth waking the sleeping giant and get it from the horses mouth, save all the he said she said stuff.

I did hear on the weekend from a reliable source from Seaton he has a few scores to settle out at seaton so hodges may only play 2 games for Portland. Apparently his back is stuffed and could get seriously injured if he cops a big hit on it so a few boys may stick the knee in and attempt to take hangers on him....

I dont think that is the case. If other sides want to believe that then thats there problem. I do also feel that he can take care of himself. Just a small presumption though ;)

Patruno played in the A grade trial on the weekend after about 3 training runs over the pre season.
