The CFL decreed that the definition of "Junior" would apply to schools / old scholars on the same basis as clubs.
They also said that if you play 25 games for both a school and a club, say Scotch and Mitcham, both can claim him as a junior.
Of course that only applies where they started their senior career at another club.

So, for example, given above, a kid leaves Scotch, hasn't played 20 games for Sturt, and decides to play for UM Jets - he's zero points for them as his first senior club. Plays 25 games for them and decides to go to Scotch OC - he's zero points for them, then moves to Mitcham - he's zero points for them.
If he plays anywhere else he's worth points, but he can swap those 3 clubs for the rest of his life.

How would the kid be worth 0 points at Mitcham, when he has never played there before in your fact scenario?

Is it just me or does it seem a bit wrong that we are nearly a quarter of the way thru the season and we are still not sure how it works?
With such huge ramifications applied if you are wrong, and not a credible system to check the players history on, it seems to me that it is a huge mistake.

Maybe go and ask the person at your club how they do it and they can show you where they check a players history etc - it is not that difficult.

This system has been in place for 18 months now...

This system is easy to understand. Points are allocated to each player when they sign by the leagues rules. Whether certain players should be worth more or less is a different argument. Then you just tally your teams points up. Can't have more than 15 total per team.

Its pretty basic stuff. Bit of extra work for clubs regarding research. Clubs might also become more diligent with the $$$ it spends on players.

Not that I would normally side with Old Scholars but, as they would not have any juniors apart from school football, wouldnt it be easier to just clarify that they are actually an old scholar and they can play, maybe not for 0 but say 1 point if it is not clear?

I understand the need for a system to attempt to keep things fair but surely a guy can play for any club he chooses? Correct me if I am wrong but my understanding was that if you are an old scholar you have to play at least 1 game for the club before you can play anywhere else in the SAAFL? dont know if this was correct, think I heard it somewhere once??

Exactly right. School footy IS junior footy for a college old scholar's side. Any suggestion otherwise is just idiotic and ill informed.

Playing over the points is no different to playing an ineligible player. One (or more) of those who played was not allowed to. The penalty for going over the points should be the same as playing a player you weren't allowed to. Should be the same as a forfeit win.

Wish it was true - all the students would then be worth points for the other clubs (other than if they played 25 junior games for the club...blah....blah....blah....)
