Hope Valley 5.10-40 lost to Athelstone 6.6-42
Pretty high scoring game between Lutheran and Unley. The game between HV and Ath looked like a ripper. Anyone able to give some light on that game? REally looking forward to Friday nights game against the Valley's.
We were in front all day, except for when it counted unfortunately. Wasted so many opportunities in front of goal. Credit to Athelstone and their persistence paid off in the end to get the 2 points.
The contest was a close one all day with only a couple of goals in it at any time. Athelstone started slowly, probably not a surprise given they hadn't played a game since their trial 2 weeks ago (also had the bye first up). On the small Hope Valley Oval, I thought the game was quite tight and scrappy until Athelstone started to get some run going midway through the 3rd quarter and into the 4th quarter. At the end of the game they just ran and moved the ball a bit better which gave them the opportunity to peg HV back.
The game was played in pretty good spirits, can't even remember any scuffles breaking out, and finished just before the rain set in for the day.
Hope the injury to the Hope Valley player who was stretchered off early in the last quarter isn't that bad.
Be intersted to know what HV thought of a triple header with 2 opposition teams. Great for the C's to play in front of the B's and A's but there was no reason for the Atherlsone C's to stick around. Are triple headers a worthwhile exercise if some of the oposition teams come from different clubs?
It was the first time we have a triple header at home with two different clubs. Don't think it makes any differance to the home club but the the first up team will not hang around if there a/b grade are playing close by. Saying that it was good to see a few Athelstone people hang around for a while, this was because a few your people know a few from our club.
