Our C Grade team named last night is very strong and has only 4 or 5 of the blokes from last year. A lot of new players, some players who took the year off of Div 1 and a Full Fwd line that features a 6,3 changing Ruck, a battle hardened veteran who loves to put things between sticks and a fwd pocket whose fingers smell remarkably like bacon. Should be a good game tomorrow against Old Iggs and its exciting to finally be at that point of "the night before Round 1" :D

hmm pity your strength didnt reflect in the score :?
How did Blair Sanderson go in your C grade? Would've thought he would be playing higher.

No worries mate. Glad the club is up and about again. It is sad to see suburban clubs on the brink of extinction. It was a nice touch to see Cooky win the coaches award in the club rooms after the game. Should be a good return bout in a couple of months As the teams seemed evenly matched with your mob playing your oval a little better in the end. Make sure you tune into Saturday Gameday on WOWFM 100.5 from 10.30-12 as there will be a little tribute to the saving of Ovingham :D

So we're 5 weeks in and I reckon now's about the time we can see who the pace setters are where other clubs are at.

I know being a C grade comp it's always hard but what are everyone's thoughts?

ROCS - smashed us in rd 2 when at full strength and haven't lost a game, I reckon they'll be Playin in a GF...
PAOC - obviously have talent and although we haven't played them I reckon they'll be ROCS opponents in the GF
Ovingham - have really exceeded my expectations, was hoping to be competitive and maybe pinch a win or two throughout the year. Finals are our goal and there is a real belief after running over the top of Iggies on Saturday, anywhere from 3-6 though I reckon...
Old Iggies - teams with a good full back will stop them otherwise they will make you pay, will be 3-6 at years end
SPOC - like PAOC I haven't seen them but results say they are a good side and they'll be amongst the fight for the 5 too
Walkerville - 1 and 4 iirc but only lost by a point to ROCS... I reckon they'll be 3-6 too
Uni - not the side I, and many others, expected. Will prob finish 7th IMO
PNU - sorry wristy, you blokes and Port Dist will be fighting for the spoon me thinks...

Lookin forward to a week off and a good rest of the year!

Up you CATTERS!
I am not talking to you for 3 minutes because you punched me in the head and it hurt and that was not okay for you to do

it may be a bit of a slog for the uni c2 team but i expect them to start improving as numbers and injuries get better.
they've had the unfortunate experience of becoming the sixth side in the club this year behind the 6 reserves and c1 sides.

Fairly accurate report i think there NG. For my mind on what i have seen and heard i think it's going to be a real log jam below ROCS & PAOC.

There is a Keg bet being put on by the alma who is the co major sponsor of both us and ROCS for the club that wins 2 out of 3 games on the weekend! should be a cracker, with all 3 teams on pretty much the same W-L ratio!!

loser also has to cook the BBQ on sunday for the winning club!

No need to apologise mate. It couldnt be too far off the mark. I have no doubt that we will win a few games but we wont be required for the serious stuff at the end of the year. We played PAOC on the weekend and they looked pretty good. From what i have seen i think the premiership race is very wide open. ALL 4 COLLEGE SIDES WOULD CONSIDER THEMSELVES A HUGE CHANCE.

Going to be a very good game of footy down at Walkerville oval today.
A developing Ovingham unit taking on a very good side in Walkerville fresh off of a 6 goal win against St. Peters last weekend.
I expect that this game will go down to the wire with the game probably being decided in the last Quarter.
Should be a great contest.

Congratulations to the Walkerville side on a big win today. They led us in every quarter and won by about 60 points I believe. Looking forward to a week off and taking on Port Districts at Port Districts in a few weeks time.

people are always quick to bag the umpiring but at the port yesterday we had two very good umpires who i thought did a great job
all you can ask for is for the umpires to be consistent
they seemed to take the conditions into account and umpired accordingly
a great job fellas
also like to thank the port district president who came onto the ground during our warm down and spoke to me to the side
i appreciated what he had to say and made sure i passed his comments onto everyone at the club
great to see one of the bigger and more successful clubs in the league take the time out for probably the smallest club in the league and his words were very much appreciated by myself and all at the club

Got to say deeman that in my 17 seasons of senior footy that the umpiring in this division has been of exceptional standard and probably the most consistant and non biased umpiring that I have seen. Not saying that they have got all the decisions right but they have been fair in all games that I have witnessed and played in so far. Any umpires that happen to read this thread from our division I hope you keep up the good work lads.

great game played at cane reserve between rostrevor and ovies
first round rostrevor towelled up ovies by 120 points
todays game was played hard and tough in blistery conditions between two sides that looked nothing like they did in round 2
rostrevor had several players missing and ovies had a number of players missing as well
rostrevor played the smarter footy on the day and are a very well drilled team
they structured up wwell down the spine and had good runners on the outside
in the last quarter ovies got to within 4 points but to their credit rostrevor pulled awayn to win by about 4 goals
they are the benchmark in my opion and will be hard to beat come september
also a big thankyou to their lads for coming in for a drink after the game was well appreciated and they set the standard in our division when it comes to the way they conduct themselves on and off the field

we fight as one
we win and lose as one

dee man, without sounding like I'm making excuses because ROC do look a quality outfit, but it was always going to be tough going for Ovies, considering only 2 on the bench after half time, and lacked flexibility in some positions, missing key personnel made the situation that bit more harder.
I thought Ovingham appeared to lack any degree of urgency/desperation early and appeared lazy - this needs to be ironed out before seasons end, you may be able to get away with it on a shoebox oval but on bigger grounds, it could spell disaster.
I believe a tough game against a quality opposition today might just be the ingredient the side needed to snap out of its complacent state we have seen in recent games.
