I guess I see a massive problem with the current status quo of amateur league football. Maybe when the club you love faces serious peril you might have a sombre outlook as well.
Old footballers recall tales of lore and triumph to me, I guess old Unley footballers recall how much money they made? Kind of makes sense.
Taking unsustainable money from an amateur league football club for what is in reality a social level of football is immoral.
Dying clubs and the social impact that has on a community is significant.
Football provides an outlet for many young people, which can be extremely important. I know it was for me. The Mitchell Park Football club has played a very serious part of my life and has provided an incredible amount of happiness.
So rather than engaging in a discourse you have chosen to deride.
Disappointing.

That is probably a bit of a generalisation, but so what. I wasnt saying old footballers are more noble, the point was that at the end of your career the things people will cherish will be success, friendship and a sense of belonging. Not the new plasma the cash handouts paid for.
Jetters wrote:If clubs invest in players sustainably then what's the issue? When they don't, those clubs fall rapidly down the grades or potentially fold. It's up to the quality of the management.
The issue is related to the pervasiveness of the money requirement. As marbles mentioned its not about paying players to be successful in Div 1, you have to do it it Div 6 now. Money is very hard for clubs in the lower levels to raise, which in turn makes it harder to pay players, which in turn ... hopefully you get the point. It is cyclical.
Jetters wrote:Anyone reading this forum without an actual knowledge of the league would think Mitchell Park is some sort of super club, jesus you guys like to pump yourselves up.
What. the. ****.
Where the **** did this come from? Not only did I recently post that I thought we would finish third to bottom in Div 6. If anything I am crying poor more than pumping up tyres.
Show some damn decorum.
Jetters wrote:However, reality says it's not a very popular place to play football and its just escaped the bottom div. Get some perspective.
Reality says we are surrounded by Kenilworth, Marion, Colonel Light Gardens, Edwardstown, Flinders, Morphetville etc etc. Reality also says the demographic of the area the club resides in has changed significantly over the years to the point that fewer and fewer playing age people live in the area. Reality also says that having a culture of
not paying players has greatly limited our ability to recruit.
Jetters wrote:The ability for good off-field management of course, as it should, helps dictate success. Although, it is definitely frustrating when some clubs for reasons out of their control have it much easier than others due to facilities, helpful councils, socio-ec advantages etc.
I guess good off field management is critical.
