Para hills will not be relegated this year I can guarentee that.

You can't even spell guarantee you goose! #-o

Sorry, lucky its not a spelling bee.

I fail to see how that impacts how well Para Hills will play though.

Good on you for picking it up.

Who will get relegated then? I would have thought Para Hills and Trinity will be favourites unless West Croydon drop back

Would have to agree with para hills and trinity

You wish Mr. Beefy!

It is way too early to predict relegation favourites. From the basis of the only game I have been involved in, Fitzroy look about the same as last year, no real stand outs but a good even side.

North Haven would also be about the same standard, with the lack of a marking forward being our biggest weakness.
I have a problem. It's to do with the little man, the squashed-in French man, the naked little squashed up hairy boy! You know! With the hand feet

Does that mean the side that beat them by not much isnt much chop either?

Para Hills came down from Div 4, Trinity came up from Div 6 and have lost a stack of players making them weaker than last season and they still beat them comfortably, you tell me.

with 51 new blokes at the club this year, I think they will get better as the season moves on. I wouldnt right Para hills off yet, and what club do you play for footy worrior?

Lot of talk of teams getting relegated. Looked a pretty competative round from a distance. Biggest winning margin of 7 goals. I think majority of leagues across the entire state would have results that easily eclipse that. Tough crowd....

Yeah spot LK, round 1 looked to be a competitive one. The result of the Elizabeth v Glenunga was about the margin I expected, I was very surprised at Woodville South knocking off Adelaide Lutheran at Lutheran as they are very tough to beat there. Kenilworth obviously had a convincing win at home and Para Hills v Trinity could of gone either way for mine, I only picked PH because they were playing at home.

With us vs Fitzroy I knew it was going to be close all day and it was. We had plenty of opportunities to win it but unfortunately couldn't capitalize on them, full credit to Fitzroy on their win, we challenged them in the last quarter and they were able to hold on. We were less than a goal down for the majority of the last quarter and had the ball inside 50 a good 5-6 times things just didn't go our way and we just couldn't convert. I don't think we played anywhere near our best, our skills were quite sloppy at times but our back 6 was pretty solid all day and we were pretty good in and under. Fitzroy were pretty good, ran the ball well, hit targets and always seemed to have loose players going forward. We were pretty lucky they were inaccurate, kicking 16 behinds aswell as 3-4 shots on goal that went out on the full. Nelson at CHB was very good for the Roys and Keast was solid, got alot of the footy, wasn't as damaging as he was last season against us but still played well.

Big test against Elizabeth at home this Saturday, really looking forward to getting out there. Hopefully we can improve on round 1 and get the two points.

51 new players? over 2 teams worth of new players or are you counting everyone from the under 8's to A Grade?
That is a lot of players into one club!

Great Summary TDK,
I watched the last 3 qtrs of staurday's game at Fitzroy oval, pretty hard tough contest to be honest. Both sides had chances to win the game. I thought Fizroy wasted many chances infront of goals, as the scoreboard reflected. For North Haven number #12 and there centre half back were both very good. Fizroy had one standout in Matt Nelson, He was outstanding across half back for Fitzroy. Both sides will win more games than they lose i would suggest from saturday's game. Although as was already posted that the game was sloppy it didn't lack effort at the football and player with the football.

Big grats to the running machine out at Fitzroy this week!

Who would have thought that Richie Cunningham would play 300 games?! On a serious note, Matthew Nelson has been a great player for the Roys for many years and is deserving of the accolades. I hope you have a good one mate and enjoy the day with a good win.

Credit also to Trinity for allowing the Roys to have the game at home.

Beat me to SS!

Tomorrow, Fitzroy Captain Matthew Nelson will play his 300th Senior Game for the Fitzroy Football Club.
Matt has been an outstanding leader of the Fitzroy FC for many years now- he is always one the first to welcome a new player to the club, whether the player is an A or Z grader, and his deication to his game and fitness is scond to none.
Over the years I daresay he's fielded (and rejected) offers to play elsewhere for a bit of coin, but he's stuck with the Lions through thick and thin.
Matt started his junior career as a bit of an ordinary footballer (that's being kind ;)), but he blossomed in his later years when it counts.
A great leader of the club, he won't be easily replaced when he does decide to retire- the next skipper has big shoes to fill.
Richie Cunningham/Nicole Kidman/Fire Crutch/Fanta Pants- congratulations!

Can add 140 junior games to that from 1988 - 96 with a 1993 flag in the 13's.
