SAAFL Div 3 & Div 3R (2011)

I'll change the topic then.....

GG have had a fairly decent pre-season so far with a few more guys starting to come out now, a few coming back from serious injuries and a few juniors pushing for spots. We have lost a few to Gaza, probably about 6 or 7 but no-one that can't be replaced. B's have probably been hit the hardest and our depth may not be as strong as previous years so 2011 will be a big test. The majority of our A and B grade squad are still only 21 and slowly bulking up so the move up a division, which I still believe was lucky, will be a huge test for us. We have put in a lot of fitness work and picked up a few guys from TTG and as I said, a few guys that have returned from a year off and serious injury so we are confident of being able to run the games out but our test will be in the strength department. But we know Div 3 wont be a walk in the park and we will use our upcoming trials against Walkerville and Salisbury to get used to each other and fine tuning some simple game plan stuff.

We look forward to playing some new teams that we haven't come up against as well as some that we haven't locked horns with for a few years now so everyone is keen and ready to go.

Our second oval has been seeded and will be ready to go by 2012 and this will help ease the strain on Harpers Field of about 30 teams training on it but for 2011 we will still share unfortunately. I notice a few triple headers so these are always good fun (although Mrs Choccies doesn't agree with the state I return home in...)

A fair bit of travel for all clubs this year too with the teams spread further apart than Charlie Sheen's internet rants so not sure I'm gonna enjoy hiking down west most of the year but driving home with a win always helps.

I havent really got much to do with the footy side of things this year, but numbers are good on the track from what ive seen.

Looking forward to catching up with the GG lads for a beer during the year.

was wondering what peoples thoughts were on the delay of the seasons matches.........i know that the saafl are busy but to only have round 1 done three weeks out is a disgrace

Possibly to do with the kerfuffle caused by the late withdrawals of smithfield, paralowie et al and it being unknown whether they're having sides at all and in which grades.
Club delegates should have draws for the a division grades (which are highly unlikely to change) and i'd sooner the saafl spent time on getting the gradings right rather than rushing into a program and then having to change it as has happened in the past. This also means that their printing budgets are adhered to.

Listen, i didn't mean for you blokes to take it personally, but whatever you guys have your own thread, you can talk more about players no-one else has heard of there, and more power to you.

I think there isn't much to write about on the Pooraka front, no massive numbers in or massive numbers out, the boys have been training the house down like every other club in the state at this point in time. not really news worthy, but i'll make every effort to contribute when there is something to share, unless my life inconveniently gets in the way! .

Can't you ring each other rather than choking up the DIV 3 site with big noting amongst yourselves, fair dinkum if you scroll through the last three pages you would read nothing but news on this bloke and that bloke from portland, how they are the premiership favourites and so on and so on.

As someone who browses through, it might be interesting to read a little on her about the other teams as well, i know GG generally have a few who contribute, maybe they have been bamboozled as well.

maybe you guys could spend a few minutes after training talking amongst yourselves and spare us the time spent trawling through looking for something non-portland related!

Tell us your thoughts on the Pooraka V Rosies trial game last Friday ?

Thought it was good, as last year, very impressed with the Rosewater set-up, thought they represented themselves very well and the numbers of supporters for a trial match would be encouraging for them.

it was also good for the lads from both squads to blow the dust off in a competitive hit out, some good signs for us, but plenty more to do as well, and also quite a few players yet to come in. though having said that some of the form of the young lads was very sharp.

The number of people there caught us out a bit too, the queue at the BBQ was 8 deep for 1/2 of the game.

Yeah they are. Apparently they are going to be commissioned on the 22nd March - hope so as we have a twilight trial on the 26th.
