We manage to do okay thanks to a spread of loyal sponsors and a dedicated committee who consistently organise popular and well attended social events.

The idea of paying players has been floated in the past, but it was unanimously decided to be a little more egalitarian with our incentives. After a bit of number crunching at the end of 2008 and again at the end of 2009, increases were made to best player awards and to the A Grade players' drink cards. As yet we are not in a financial position to pay individual players (on top of current incentives), and perhaps from a philosophical point of view we aren't either.

If players are boasting about being paid, then so be it. You can't control what people say. I'm sure the boys have been having a good laugh about it though.

You know as far as im concerned who cares what other clubs do or how much they pay players (if indeed they do) end of the day its more important to worry about the progress and development of your own club for the future.

Sure splashing some money might buy you some quick fix success to get you up the divs but really the future of the clubs relies on the homegrown players, the life members, the true supporters of the club because you know once the success goes and the money drys these are the people to bring you back up of the ground.

Good example is a few years ago at Kilburn they spent a bucket load of $$ on blokes - more than the salary its rumored - made the finals, lost the semi, went to div 3 then because of Edwardstown moving elected for divvy2, all the "Gun players" on the big coin jumped ship and well look at Kilburn now, sinking faster than a beer at a bucks show!

Kilburn is a cracking example at the moment.

It is a good article and seems you guys are really trying. Guess we will have to wait and see though if much has changed. Its hard to teach old dogs new tricks. I really wish you guys all the best though this season.

Cheers watchdog.

Improvement is the key, I think it's fair to say things are getting better in terms of on field discipline down at Parkies. We have been around the average in terms of reports and send off's in recent years. Might still take some time to completely weed it out and hopefully by then we would have changed some people perceptions.

There is no better example of the difference a reputation can make than Kenilworth. They are based barely 1 km away from us, yet they have a thriving junior program with kids coming out their ears, whereas we have 3 junior teams that struggle to get numbers each week. Speaking to Kenilworth parents the sole explanation that I hear time after time is "reputation". Parents don't want their kids being associated with a "thug" club. And fair enough too.

KFC's junior committe is the strength of their juniors..good football people with their own kids involved..

i see eddie spicer has done the full circle again..i wonder if LM can remember eddie from a game out at smithfield a few years ago?

Good hitout up at the houghton oval today. Both sides had a few out but was still a good physical game. In the end Houghton got up by about four goals i think. Matt Jones is a massive pickup for hope valley. I use to play with him at TTG and he can quite easily win games off of his own boot. Wondering what any of the demons thought of the game??? Our young lads stood up in a big way today. Cant wait to have everyone available so we have our full A grade side and see how everyone gels together. Good luck to the valleys this year.

Yeah was a good hitout mate. Had a few out so gave us a chance to look at some of our kids, who went really well. I know you guys have some good players to come into your side yet and from what I saw today think you will be more than competetive. And yes pretty happy with our new recruit. 8)

That definately is a first. I have never heard of a team singing their song after a trial. They must have been extra pumped to get a win.
