Not sure where you get your VERY misguided info from. Shoc's meetings are with Edwardstown who appear to have hit another financial crisis, a merge maybe that would have them back in Div 2. Mitchell Park and Flinders Uni trained together at the den last night under the new lights with around 50 players participating. That's a lot more than 4 light towers. MP will be in Div 7 next year with 2 teams. ;)

Shoc's won't Suri, too much at stake. As for Towns, then my current letter that was sent to life members, supporters, and the like, begging for money to help pay the bills and with the clubs full bank details included in the letter tells me things are again crook in Tullamarook. :(

I spoke to a mate of mine playing at Townies and he said that this rumour pops its head up every few years but doubts it'll happen. He confirmed that the club is in a lot of financial trouble, which was the reason they left SAAFL as the fees were too high. Seems it could be a case of merge or fold for Townies unless they get their cash flow moving in the right way.[/quote]

Rumours of the splinter juniors kissing and making up with the senior section of the club and heading home.....

Hopefully Townies can get their issues in order to stop the rumours circulating and so they can get on with playing footy.

Onto this weekend, HUGE game for Walkies . Finals or bust for us against SHOC at the Parade.

Given Edwardstown's financial woes as stated, the danger for them is they could end up not unlike Kilburn next season where the possibility of a player exodus would exacerbate their problems of trying to remain a viable entity.....Are they indeed looking to comeback to the SAAFL??... and if so... I suspect they would have to meet some very specific criteria before re entry to comp. Otherwise it would just add fuel to the logistical problems of formulating a balanced fixture where all sides at least have the potential to be competitive and to keep all and sundry happy .....

There are teams already within the comp whose future's are in doubt unless they merge or find a rich "sugar" daddy to prop them up.... IMO.

I cant see them coming back to SAAFL as i am led to believe the high fees were a reason they left. If they are in financial troubles now, coming back to SAAFL wouldnt solve them. If they do come back they will be Div 7's problem anyway ;)

If they stayed in D1 I'm led to believe that the never would have moved....so in a round about way yes because they were relegated they decided to move to the SFL....

I understand. But, if they harbour any thoughts of re entry to SAAFL....they would have to demonstrate they are viable enough to re enter at any level IMO....Making them the problem of those representative in Div 7... because they are only half baked, will accomplish nothing and only add to the problems sorting out the inequities at league HQ and as raised by people in this forum. Div 7 and the C grade comp by all accounts is everyone's problem....

Both incorrect, they moved for financial reasons. A- less affiliation fees B - gate takings every 2nd week and C - the cost of paying players to keep up with Div2. Plus the travel was easier given their location. It had nothing to do with the level they were playing, they did just get beaten by SHOC's in the Div 2 prelim in 2008 and were only points away from a return to Div 1, they were going anyway. ;)

That's as I understand it as well..... it was money problem...... On recollection (I stand to be corrected if wrong) because of Towns departure... Scotch OC took the option of remaining in Div 2 when they were in a 3 way negotiation along with Kilburn and SMOSH on who was to stay and who was to be relegated that year..... All three sides had had a horror year.....Scotch were more keen to stay than the others and endured another a tough season. If I remember correctly they came down that the following season. It's not all bad though because on current form they have an great chance to hit the "big time" next year.....

theyre coming

and theyll either have to sacrifice theyre club identity with a merger to get a place up in high divisions, which i think is ridiculous

or

come back via div 7 maintain their history & try to rise up the ranks. cos personally when theyre currently a bottom 5 side in the sfl, im certain theyd be nothing close to competing in div 1 or 2 like they may have been 6 years ago and they too could hardly get close to beating smithfield

Could be a touch unfair for the other D7 teams?

yeah thats what cohiba was leading too

but i think theyll be likely to cut player wages to pay off debts so if they have any big guns they wont be set for payment and may go elsewhere leaving only loyal towns boys who play for jumper and not money?

Personally I think they should have stayed in SAAFL. I was at the special meeting that was held at the club in 2008 and the general feeling was entry into SFL would be the saving of the club or the sinking of it, unfortunately I fear the latter. If they want back in we should welcome them with open arms , regardless of the Div because the decision makers from back then have all gone and the current people would just want to see their great club continue. 5 years time and they celebrate 100 years and they could be around Div 3 or 4 by then. Just in case anyone wonders of my interest, I am a life member, ex B grade coach, junior premiership coach, previous board member of 10 years at Edwardstown but a proud supporter of SAAFL. :)

One club player, 150 odd games at Edwardstown, 6 grand finals 4 premierships and 2 best on grounds in a GF. Shucks, and modest as well. Never played in an A grade one but, should have but injury took it's destiny. I was lucky as a player. Lacked a bit of hard work though lol. :D

Amazing finish to Div 2 in Round 18 with every game effecting positions 4th through to 10th. Relegated with 6 wins is pretty brutal and playing finals with 7 wins is uncanny but it may actually pan out that way.

Johnny Boras out for two weeks for offensive language!

Massive blow for Broadies going into finals!

(good news for Nick Jolly and Paul Cahill duking it out for leading goal kicker though)
