A view on Div 7.

TTG- Have picked up heaps of players and the filter down will have them strong. They were top 3 for a lot of 2011 so expect them to be right up there providing they can hold their quality midfielders.

ANGLE VALE- Appear to have retained all their group from last year and picked up a few as well. Will be right up there as well.

HENLEY- Are a strong club and Div 6 is a tough place for a C grade team. Back to where they can compete strongly.

SHOC- Have lost a few players via clearances and retirements but have massive depth of quality and again look to be the favourites and team to catch.

MITCHELL PK- Look to have picked up a lot of players but yet to be determined as to their quality. Were super competitive in 2011 so any quality recruiting could see them right around the mark.

NORTH PINES- Finished very strongly in 2011 but appear to have lost some real quality players and not too many ins so far. Change of coach but would have to improve to be a threat.

MODBURY- A proud club who had a poor season 2011 and appear to have adopted the youth development policy that will see benefits in the long term but now? Probably not.

FLINDERS UNIVERSITY- Would need to improve sharply and recruit players, not lose them as they appear to have. Not been strong for a few years now but who knows. Maybe a miracle.

SMITHFIELD- Hopefully newcomers to the Div. Doesn't seem like they have picked up too much other than a few past players. Struggled in C1 last year and would need to lift to be up there in this strong Div.

FLINDERS PK- Seems like they want to play in this Div for 2012.Will be a real threat to most clubs if they do. Coming off 4 flags and players coming from everywhere will see them highly competitive and their clashes with Henley will be beauties.

So what are the bookies saying? Your turn.

Cheers Morell for that heads up. That makes them $2.50 favourites in my view and Shoc to play them in the granny at $2.80. Maybe this time Shoc will be forced up. Watch Flinders Pk the rumour is they are getting 100 plus at training. Why wouldn't you coming off 4 flags.

Only question mark over TTG is whether or not they can find a key forward, if they can, they will match it with the best sides.

Shoc still favourite for mine, followed by Henley and Angle Vale but Mitchell Park have shorteneed a tad with some good clearance numbers.

No idea what either of you are on about, we went though this last year and where did Mitchell Park finish? Right about where I said we would - 4th. Happens year in year out, clearances get posted and everyone works themselves into a lather based on nothing but a name that in all likelihood they have never heard of let alone seen play footy.

As an example I can tell you Rhys Potuzynski, whilst a top lad and good football player, will not play a single A grade game this year, but everyone sees:

Potuzynski, Rhys - Happy Valley to Mitchell Park - and assumes that because of his surname and original club that he will slot into our A Grade midfield rotations.

Clearances are an indicator, a small wift of an indicator at that, but come the business end of the season they really do mean naff all. There is absolutely nothing, not a skeric of evidence to suggest Mitchell Park have overtaken SHOC or Angle Vale or that Henley shouldn't also be rated ahead of us at this early stage of the season. North Pines also touched us up last time we played.

Mitchell Park should play finals this year and are therefore a contender, no doubt, but to have a shot at the title we need more solid A Grade midfield depth, more options up forward other than Luke and a fair dinkum 6ft + solid full back, and more commitment and determination from the fringe players - do any of the recruits fill these roles? Can you tell that from a name or have you seen them train/play?

I just wish there was some sort of clearance system for the stock market, as one could make a killing on the over estimation a name on a list gets. Maybe I could add this to morell's football mythbusters episode 1? :D

No but maybe the fact we have the best depth in the SAAFL with 5 QUALITY sides all of which made Grand Finals?
