Well done to SMOSH on Saturday, will be a tough team to beat on dry days with 6'4+ blokes across all lines. Was a good game of footy with the Hawks coming home strong but leaving too much to do.

Was a good contest. Evenly matched at the long break. The Lions owned the 3rd term, but the Hawks powered home in the last 10 minutes to almost pinch the match......Good game from #1 Tim Davey particularly around the goals along with Kyle McNaughton and Travis Edwards who I think are up from the Junior ranks having a good debut in the A's.

Just kidding. No 4 is the great man Vinny Urbancic. Future AFL footballer and the subject of the infamous thread on here some years ago.

Likely to be a mature age rookie next year.

TBS saw a bit of the kilburn vs shoc game and the bloke with the long sleeves in the forward line #20 moved well but don't know if he knows what a hard ball get is and #26 in defence looks like all he can do is push and bump his opponent because as soon as the ball hit the round he was no where to be seen.

Kilburn looked the goods, well coached well drilled.

Spectated the Walkies V Flinder Park A grade on Saturday, must say number 20 from FP had a bad day, almost as bad as his haircut!
It was really funny to watch him playing on new recruit Heintze. He tried playing rough, elbowing and punching him in the ribs to try and get an edge...... was pretty funny when Heintze clunked every contested mark against him and also the wrestle he instigated.

20 is Michael Howson. Kicks plenty of goals from a flank. Is very quick and not meant to be in and under. 26 is 18 years old and new to the club. I think it was his first senior game of footy. I thought he did ok and am confident he will be a very good player for us.

Can someone tell me whether the sliding rule is being played/enforced in amateur footy?

It was 100% not played on saturday with 2 incidents (1 for, 1 against) that i recall being paid as high or puish in the back for the guys who's legs were taken out.

I was under the imrpession it was going to be enforced?

Good Game of footy. Modbury always a proud club, and were always going to fight it out to the end. Was surprised to see Tim Davey playing - thought redback commitments might have kept him away from Footy? Either way - damn good player, and a good bloke too. Had a couple of Very handy forwards and Some big solid Bodies in the midfield. Imagine they will be a very tough team to beat at Home!

Walkerville Super Impressive from all reports.

Think we will be facing a fired up SHOC outfit after an unexpected Loss saturday. Been a few years since a SHOC/SMOSH clash!

With the sliding rule, the umps paid it I reckon maybe once in my game (gaza v TTG).
They were actually quite good about it, and we're paying them in the ridiculous way the afl umps pay them.

Players don't seem to slide in amateur league anywhere near as much as the afl players do, so there wouldn't be too many free kicks paid for this offence I wouldn't think.

Apparently Alex Douglas is becoming increasingly disgruntled at Walkerville. Quality midfielder recruited from Payneham, yet is still picked in the magoos for this weekend, even after being BOG last week. Several clubs are rumoured to be interested in signing this talented young footballer.

Increasingly disgruntled - after 1 game? The A's played pretty bloody well last week so not sure whos place he would take.
Hopefully, like all good players, he gets BOG again this weekend and really puts pressure on the coaches to pick him.

This will be his second year at the Cats and it happened to him last year as well. Was on Sturt's radar early in 2012 and I'm sure plenty of other amateur clubs would happily acquire his services.

I think many will be surprised how quickly we will adjust to the rule.
When the AFL first brought it in, i was against it in a massive way. Still am in alot of ways

I fell victim to it last week.
I crouched to pick up a rolling ball and was slid into and collected very hard in the left ankle. Bad enough that i couldn't walk at all Sunday and will miss this week.

As i lay their half watching our team run away with the ball that i got to them, i was thinking, 'where the hell was my sliding free kick?'. Before then very slowly moving my leg to make sure i hadn't done a 'Nathan Brown'.

My point i guess is that after playing the game for nearly 20 years, i adjusted and expected that i would be protected by the umpires by going for the ball in that situation. I could have just as easily gone to ground to shovel handball forward as it was that type of scenario

Im actually intrigued as to when the first one will be payed in one of our games. No doubt a degree of frustration will follow but id tell the umps not to hold back paying it if they do see it, as i found, the frustration for NOT paying it will be there as well.
