P1 consisted of x amount of A1 clubs and Edwardstown ( I think), then P2 had the top x amount of A2 clubs and PNU, Athelstone, Pooraka and a couple of other clubs from SAFA (Plympton may have been in there too) and P3 was made of the best of possibly the A3 clubs and a couple of SAFA teams.
I think it was after that year that the competition was re-graded to the D1,D2 etc... we know of now.
How exactly the divs ended up being spread out after that first initial year though is unknown to me. I actually think I read somewhere that the Premier division was set up as a semi professional setup which is why all of the SAFA teams were in there.
Sorry, that's about all I know off the top of my head. Fourth Estate would be the bloke who can shed more light on it all - and I hope this post hasnt been a case of "fractured fairytales"

May as well send CBC back to div four or they should request it because they need to start rebuilding and by staying in Div 3 if they can survive, it would be a waste of a year unless they can do some serious recruiting. So brighton could replace them. Looking forward to seeing what happens from here though.

Let's not forget, members on board is only the first logical step. Then it's juniors (parents/volunteers), senior players, sponsors and ofcourse some assurities from the SAAFL over grading.
If they miraculously went to SAAFL div 5 down and kept their current group of players they'd be fine for a few years but lets remember players age each season so by the time they get to the dizzy heights they might be a little tired. Yes good recruiting blah blah blah will counter this but I wonder how many players/points the bombers are using now in comparions to home grown players?
Personally I find it hard to believe Edwardstown would come over to the SFL only recently while the Bombers now want to go the other way! SFL have required a two tiered comp for years but idiotic arguments from yester year keep them ticking over the way they are now.
Also IF a number of SFL clubs came to SAAFL (much like the old SAFA shift) then would Salisbury North and co be happy driving to bloody flaggies and everywhere else every second weekend OR could there be an argument for regionalised devision with a north v south v west v east association carnival weekend. Yes, I'm getting way ahead of myself - I'm a state of origin tragic for starters..

Muffler why don't you send your own club back to Div 4 to make way for Brighton? - we fought bloody hard to get to Div. 3 over many years and we are not going to volunteer to go backwards. We did some serious recruiting this year only to cop the old injury curse - we have played some damn good footy this year and will be looking to stay put

I don't have a club in div 3 buddy. I know you did some serious recruiting and do have a few injuries too but you have no depth in your club what so ever which is obviously evident with some of your players playing A Grade footy.. Well keep working hard then, you might need too.
