Obviously with all the discussion over the boundary line etc there were no injuries around.

Dols- not sure whether your trolling or just plain stupid.

Given the character of Paul, I feel the need to stick up for the kid as he has stepped up to senior footy this season and earned the respect of the playing group by playing the ball at all costs and playing the game with integrity and sportsmanship, NOT thuggery. Pauls accident was merely one of the most unfortunate of incidents you are likely to see on a footy field.

I will repeat it was not the fault of the north haven footy club and DEFINATELY not an act of thuggery gone wrong. Stop trying to paint a picture of a kid who deserves nothing but sympathy for some bad luck.

Injuries this round

Just putting the facts out there mate. Sorry if you dont agree. Only reporting what I saw from no more than 10 metres away. Not saying he was a thug. Made a bad decision to make late contact and it all went wrong.

The SAAFL rules only say there has to be 3m between the boundry line and the fence/line for spectators to stand behind. So technically the conditions are within the guidelines stipulated by the SAAFL.

Also, In 7 seasons of senior footy at NH, Ive never seen anyone go that far past the boundry line. It was just an uncommon accident. And I dont think its good for third parties to be putting the idea of lawsuits (even if you dont agree with going down that path) into peoples heads. You give the wrong type of person that idea, and it could mean massive troubles to a club that has really done nothing wrong.

Not saying it was your club that caused it but you say no one has done it in 7 seasons, but two people have done it 1 game. Lucky for North Haven bloke didn't end up the same way as the Hope Valley kid. I no you are saying it is 4 metres but you have heaps of room to increase it by a couple of metres so no one will have the chance to injury themself.

Will have to agree with ya there valleys have been with Paul for abt 3 yrs as the trainer for the 18's and was there on sat
the lad plays the game fair and has never been into thuggery at all in 3 yrs of watching him play he has never never played the man only the ball
yes its an unfortunate accident and one that i hope doesnt happen again
Its no ones fault just one of them freak injuries.accidents that happen in a game on footy
Too call it an act of thuggery gone wrong is totally out of character for him
Just feel for the young guy and hope him a speedy recovery and hope he plays again and doesnt let this stop him

The question he asked which i couldnt answer is the ground marshalls who sign off on the ground. What qualifications and profesional experience do they have to be making player safety evaluations on behalf of 21 footballers?

This path is surely not in the interests of football clubs. Do we want more rules and regulations placed on volunteers, they are hard enough to find as it is.

No one wants more rules or regs but do you think if someone does a serious injury or for example if that bloke had slipped on the concrete hit his head and died (far fetched yes unrealistic no) do you no think a decent lawyer will look and try and point the finger at the club marschall who works as a waiter with no expertise in player safety signing off on the safety of 40odd footballers.

All im saying is dont leave yourself 1% at risk. Thats all it will take for your club to be forced to go to court and from that point your club may go broke just trying to defend themselves.

When a club renews their insurance there is an on-line questionnaire that is required to be answered before the renewal is accepted. There is also a number of scenarios to be read through. Obviously it isn't too hard to pass as most of it is common sense and the person who renews the insurance may not be the same one that signs the form saying it is safe to play.
My understanding of the insurance is that it also covers a club and it's volunteers against such legal action for up to $20M.
If you were to want 100% safe conditions then there wouldn't be any football, everyone accepts a degree of risk. If you are worried about getting hurt you should be playing another game.
There is more risk of turning an ankle at North Haven in one of the numerous pot holes than running into the club rooms.

It is very unfortunate and this sort of thing does happen from time to time, hopefully being so young he recovers quickly and is back playing without any trouble from the ankle.
I have a problem. It's to do with the little man, the squashed-in French man, the naked little squashed up hairy boy! You know! With the hand feet

Until the council takes action the boundary will be moved out even further but I will stress again it is at least 25% further out than the requirements which is more than most. Do I need to bring a tape measure to Hope Valley later in the year? IT IS EXTREMELY UNFORTUNATE FOR THE PLAYER CONCERNED EVERYONE HOPES HE MAKES A QUICK RECOVERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can we let this go now or are we going to go the Hope Valley way and go on and on and on and on?

Good lord - this thread was meant to be about injuries and NOT the possibility of a public liability lawsuit.

Can we get back to injury talk please and not the unlikely consequences of it??

Still swollen but the scans came up fine so no reason not to play.
