Well not the result we were after but in all a good game of footy. Districts got the jump on us early as we werent ready to stop there run. A lot of outside feeders for them which looked good when they went forward. It goes to show form our point of view that training is key to some sort of success on the field. When you have 70% of your side rock up at round 1 who havent been on the track since September you can only give credit to Districts for dishing out what hey did. Having a few of their higher grade palyers in their side fromn last year is obviously testimate to their depth. Round 1 has never been good to us in recent years but the result was better than expected when looking down the barrell at a thumping. We finally managed to play footy after half time. A part from about 5 mins in the last half i thought we took some control. Outscoring them and maintaning posession for two quarters and not letting the score blowout. Dizzies were inaccurate at goal lik,e ourselves which can only get better as the season progresses. Again the officiating of the game was very questionable. You cant have a club umpire waiting for their side or support staff amke the calls and then call it the same way. Let the game go on. I will say the umpiring was consistently crap for the whole game. We did control most of the hit outs for the game but Dizzies read it better. Loosing about 6-7 players from the side i had last year is no excuse we are onl yas good as our last game. Dizzies wont be at the bottom of the ladder this year. Looking forward to return bout.

Any comments on other games? Heard Unley got the job done on Hope Vally. Any reports on that one? Looking at the team sheets for Pembroke tehy actually had numbers. Will this be the same as last year when it comes to the mid year games everyone dissappears?
Be good to hear everyones reports on their games.

I didn't see our C grade play Satchel, but by all accounts we were well under done. Had quite a few players that had only trained once or twice so a few of them went down quite early which was expected. Might take some time for our c grade to gel together - quite a different side from last year, but also a tougher comp no doubt.

apparently Unley were pretty good though, so could well be one to watch this year. Another big test for us this week against Athelstone.

I thought i would make the trip down to see the big hit out between rivals Pt Districts and Portland. I thought the c grade game was actually umpired quite well after other games i have watched in previous years in that grade. Districts controlled the game most of the day keeping Portland goaless untill the last quarter where they banged on five. Was a great last quarter by Portland after being out played all day and with players in these lower grades not training it was good to see the energy and spirits still up in the last. You could see some of teh guys from Port struggling after half time so if they can get fitness into them these guys are going to be a tough team to beat this year. With the mix Districts seem to have with big bodys and fast outside runners it is looking good for the guys. The big Jesus look a like down back for port was really impressive with a few big pack marks and some pin point kicking out of the back lines. After Districts only winning one game last season this should keep the guys in fighting form with a few older heads and some young tallent in the team. Will be good to see them have a good year after a few tough seasons in recent times.

Will be interesting to see how Athelstone go this week, after being in Div 7 last year you would think they may be too strong for this division.

LMA athelstone did play Div 7 last year but they lost 2 games by over 40 goals and another 3 or 4 by 30 goals. so although they played div 7 they were not exactly strong. Also they have lost and handful of players from last year and have also lost the D grade so its not like they have a whole heap of players to choose from.

Dave Harris is a big loss he was expected to hold down a key forward roll but has called it quits. he would have been a very hard for any defender to hold down.

Must be a pain to have such a turnover of players and structure to your club like that? Wel it looks like the new system should have some benefit to clubs like Athelstone then? Only time will tell. Hopefuly they can be as competative as they were the last time we played. They were a good club and had decent players. Im talking 2004 though. Hopefully this year they can turn it around. No matter what club, players or crap is thought about any other team you want as many competative sides in the Div as possible.

Unley were comprehensive winners over the Demons last week.
We did win the C4 flag last year, but lost 10+ experienced players, mainly to retirements.
These have been replaced with young enthusiastic kids (mainly from Mercedes)
Good first up win for the new coach too!

Don't know who you are DP but the raggies have more than 1 player in it's team. Yes Dave Harris has comitted to yet another season but let me tell you that the raggies have a good mix of young and old this year. I am suprised you know so much about the raggies. Maybe you should come out and train with us 1 night and have a kick.

Gday boys, Im back for season 2012. We had a good run with Lutheran last week, dissapointing to go down by 3 goals after being even at 3/4 time, we will come good just need to gel the new and old guys together a bit more yet (and fitness haha). looking forward to Pembroke tomorow, we went 1-1 with them last year so will be nice to get one up early. Anyone got any thoughts on them from what they have seen last week???

Pretty high scoring game between Lutheran and Unley. The game between HV and Ath looked like a ripper. ANyone able to give some light on that game? REally looking forward to Friday nights game against the Valley's.

C grade boys led for all but the last 28 seconds of the game. Responded well to their Round 1 loss. Played well, just couldn't hold on when Athelstone started to gain momentum

We were in front all day, except for when it counted unfortunately. Wasted so many opportunities in front of goal. Credit to Athelstone and their persistence paid off in the end to get the 2 points.

The contest was a close one all day with only a couple of goals in it at any time. Athelstone started slowly, probably not a surprise given they hadn't played a game since their trial 2 weeks ago (also had the bye first up). On the small Hope Valley Oval, I thought the game was quite tight and scrappy until Athelstone started to get some run going midway through the 3rd quarter and into the 4th quarter. At the end of the game they just ran and moved the ball a bit better which gave them the opportunity to peg HV back.

The game was played in pretty good spirits, can't even remember any scuffles breaking out, and finished just before the rain set in for the day.

Hope the injury to the Hope Valley player who was stretchered off early in the last quarter isn't that bad.

Be intersted to know what HV thought of a triple header with 2 opposition teams. Great for the C's to play in front of the B's and A's but there was no reason for the Atherlsone C's to stick around. Are triple headers a worthwhile exercise if some of the oposition teams come from different clubs?
