The only problem which could be encountered is clubs being unable to use grounds because of an April 1 handover with their cricket clubs.
THe cricket season for all cricket comps finish the week before(weekend of the 24 and 25th) with the exception of Hills and grade which finish on March 31. Not every team is going to affected by not being able to use their oval, so it's just as easy to programme in away games for those clubs in round 1.
and then of course there is the use of Thebby to use up your mandatory 1 game there.

So most clubs would normally have 2 probably 3 trial games prior to the start of the season so where have you played them in the past?Demon Juke wrote:Yes most of the clubs will have 5 days to get there oval readfy for football, where do yo suggest all the clubs play there trial games ....at Thebby

Pretty sure district Baseball and a lot of tennis competitions follow similar time-lines.
Some people who say along the line of 'who care, footys the best sport' - naiveity at its best. Facilities, player numbers, and, perhaps most crucially, volunteers who can't be in two places at once! And when some poor bastard breaks his ankle on a cricket pitch (or baseball mound in our case), everyone will be up in arms about the early start!
And FWIW, the idea of playing round 1, then having a bye is ridiculous.
Cheers.

Go and look at previous handbooks - it's happened before!
As for the grade cricketers - it's about 6 people out of the 5000 odd people that actually play - I dare say there would be a lot more understanding if all comps finished that weekend - but they don't.

Round 1 is on the same weekend as it was this year!!! How is it an 'early start'?
In 2011, we played Round 1 on the 92nd day of year. If we play Round 1 the week before Easter in 2012, it will fall on the 91st day of the year.

The point of that was under-preapred, unsuitable ground being used,.

6 out of 5000? So you're saying my club is the only one with any grade cricketters who play footy as well? AS Mr beefy shows - earliest start in 9 seasons. You've missed my point anyway - clubs won't have facilties/volunteers for round 1.
Epic tunnel vision from you FC. Most People do other things then Amateur footy.

In the SANFL Sturt always play away in round 1 because generally they don't have access to their home ground. On that point is the SANFL and SAAFL starting on the same weekend?

Heater is the only one to add sensible debate to this. It is not about players and how many play etc, etc. It is purely that grounds with cricket on them are owned by the cricket clubs until April 1st and will not be released by councils for football until then. Cricket can not play on grounds until October 1st. What would happen if the SACA or ACTA started programming the first game on the SAAFL grand final? - the only thing that matters here is that clubs can not gain their ovals until April 1st.
And it has never happened before of playing the first round in March, in the last 12 years of playing, which has been demonstrated by Beefy as well.
End of story.
