Thought i would give a little run down on where i think each club is at.
SMOSH: They were the best team we played last year. Not sure if it was a match up thing as some teams just line up very well against others, i was honestly surprised they didn't take it out last year. No Rae will obviously make things a lot harder for them as a key forward is the key ingredient for a flag. I expect them to go deep into finals action
Seaton: The other team that really gave us a good couple of floggings. Seemed to have a young fast team and just moved the ball too fast for us. If the rumours are true about the club copping a big fine and wont be able to pay players i think they will struggle. But we can only consider it rumour and i think last year they were probably only 1 or 2 key players off playing in a granny.
Mitcham: Found it amazing how people on here were quick to kick the mitcham coach while he was down and quite literally out. He is a very good coach, in the 2010 season we played them in a elim final and i thought he was pulling the strings from the sideline making very good use of the loose man and also freeing up flanagan who chopped us up. If he doesnt coach this year and does next year will Adam West still have the suspension pending? Their late season dip in form though did worry me and will need to find some consistancy as a unit. Seemed to peek too early.
Pooraka: I think they carried a lot of momentum from the 2010 season into 2011 and got a few good wins early on. Seemed like a different team the second time round when we played them maybe the evenness of the comp started to take its toll. Coghill is a very important cog to the bulls set up. Playing as a very attacking backman was hard to tell if he was zoning or had a designated man or just purely backing himself in to read the play. Once teams started to catch onto Coghill running loose in the bulls defence i think they really struggled to get the same attacking drive.
Pembroke: Think they are very similar to us (CBC) and would need at least 5 quality recruits to be a serious contender. I dont know anyone who is involved in Pembroke or know someone who knows someone so they really go under the radar. They wouldve had the scare of their life when they were potentially looking down the barrel of relegation.
CBCOC: Although we did really struggle with injuries i think the ladder was a fair reflection of where we were at. We constantly had our backs up against the wall and most weeks i actually think we played out of our skins even though we would go down. Im hoping 2011 season will send a scare through the club as we have an ageing list with blokes starting families and considering retirement we will really need to get some new blokes wearing the purple and white. As always we have a list as long as my arm of potential recruits but you cant bank on them as all they are at the moment is names on a bit of paper. We failed miserably last year replacing players we lost. I know its hard and that isnt a cheap shot at anyone at my club.
The new clubs i know very little about but here we go.
Athelstone: I cant believe Rocky is coaching them. Look forward to having a beer with him (or him watching me have a beer) when we play them. Strong club have the facilities, money and have been around Div3 and 2 for a few years now. They will know what is needed. Would love someone who seen them last year to give us a little heads up.
PNU: Same as Athelstone they will both have their sights on a div 3 flag and back to Div 2.
Kilburn: They will be riding a wave of confidence from last year and will start strong i assume they will still need to get a few blokes in to be a serious contender but wouldnt be surprised if they do by rd 1. Great facilities. Defiantly will have a better experience than their last hit out in div 3.
Sailsbury: No idea. All i know is its a long drive from my joint.
It takes real courage to wear PURPLE!!!!!
