Once again Z you have your finger on the pulse. Not confirmed but that was the chief subject at this weeks meeting I understand. The saviour of our club has been our Junior program and that U/18 side the Flag Ship of that program with great success on the field with Back to Back Premierships in '06 & "07. Not to mention the quality players it has produced since it's resurgence in around '97 - Mitchell, Cruse, Corbett, Hank, Penny and many more.

If you have'nt got the numbers you can't play, Having said that, fortunatelly there are a strong group of U/16's fresh from a Premiership (14's) win in MWJFL in '09 coming thru, so here's hoping this is a hic up and 18's will be back next year.

I also understand the club will move forward with a C grade for 2010, so hopefully our depth at Senior level can continue to grow.

I can confirm it, only 9 players and the coach recently pulled out due to a new job, hopefully this years 18's will stay and play C's, B's or even A's this year and with a heap of 16's coming up next year get it back together in 2011

Thanks for the update, those kids left hanging for a game are crucial to any future programs. Those kids and their parents need to be spoken to and encouraged/developed thru the next highest level of footy at the club. They have come thru a good standard at U/18's and MWJFL and I recon those lads need to be nurtured thru the A Grade and Reserves, where and when possible.

An establishing C grade side is not the option for 17/18 year olds, in their 1st year of Seniors, IMO.

My personal opinion only, I reckon most would push for B's and a couple at least are a good chance of playing A's during the year, I think our biggest challenge is retaining U16 players for next year that can't be fitted into the MWJFL's cap limit of 29 so that they can be the U18's and seniors of the future.

BTW the decision to not field a 18's was not taken lightly, there was heavy debate but in the end there was no other option with less than 1/3 of a viable squad and no coach, a number that had to make that decision did not sleep well Tuesday night. No matter what anyone thinks, short of a miracle there really was no other option

No question, Ian...the club's in good hands and sometimes tough decisions have to be made. Just a hic up.

My only concern was, that those close to the U/18 action did not let the "powers that be" know earlier, regarding the potential lack of numbers. Surelly this fact was evident, prior to a month ago? The lack of numbers for 2010 should have been evident at the end of last year!

Reading through the SAAFL news and have decided to do a numbers summary of the clearances (confirmed and pending).

CLUB..........INS..........OUTS...........NET
CLG............2..........0..........+2
H.D..........9..........1..........+8
I.F.............0..........0..........0
KEN...........13.........3..........+10
LOCK..........0.........1..........-1
M.P...........1..........1...........0
PARA..........8..........6.........+2
TOS...........3..........1..........+2
W.C...........4............0..........+4

*Omitted out Henley because it is their C/D Grades

Kenilworth been very busy with pen and paper, WC with some quality recruits and not much happening for Ingle Farm, Mitchell Park and Lockleys.

Obviously this only paints part of a picture, doesn't account for retirements or already listed returns.

Maybe some clubs prefer to hold their cards close to their chest, don't see any need to rush all clearances, announce out of retirements, player returns etc on a public forum.

What does any of this prove though except whether i club has increased numbers? For all anyone knows Kenilworths pick ups (sorry just for an example) might all be low grade players. I dont think this chart is much use to anyone at all anyway :P
