GGFC travelled up to Kersbrook for our first official trial game of season 2012 and had a good hit out. Probably went don by a goal or 2 in the end but scores were irrelevant as we searched for some consistency and cleanliness that we lacked last year. Still with probably 7 or 8 guys to come back into the side we started well but let them back in against the wind in teh second quarter. Our fitness was good, our attack at the ball and tackling was impressive but our hands in close weren't great and let us down in the middle part of the match. Was a good opportunity to test a few boys in the A's and see if they have it as well as blow a few cobwebs out. Managed to kick about 13 or 14 goals which was a good return for us seeing as we averaged about 2 and a half a game last year.....

Salisbury at Salisbury this week which will be a good test and then Mitcham the following week.

Plenty to build on though for us and enough to give us an idea of what areas we need to clean up on and improve. We know div 4 will be tough this year and we know we have to earn back the respect we lost last year.
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Was a good hit out on Saturday. Was great to see a game of footy. Hectorville gave us a good run for our money. Theyhad some real good ball getters. I think it was 5 and 16? who were really good at the stoppages and getting in and out. They had real good run from half back in soome parts and went forward with some real attack. In saying that it did take us a little bit to get going. It was a bit of a role reveral frous. We have usually been the lower gradeed side taking on a Div 1 or 2 side in a trial so there was a little bit of anticipation. I know its only early and i havent seen Hectorville for a long time but they have some real talent and if they gel as well as what they say and can do they will be a good side this year. Their B grade or combined side were preety good. Gave our combined C and B grade side a run also. Our side was not gretaly prepared but they came together well and it was also a great hit out. All the best to them and cheers for a great day.

Went up to Houghton on Saturday arvo and watched Greenies V Pooraka trial game.

Great weather , oval in good nick and the beers were cold...what more could you ask for.

I would suggest both clubs were glad to blow some dust out :!:

I also ventured out to this game late on Saturday. The B and C grade game was very in and under and whilst the skill level was very average, blokes were still going in hard at the footy. Maybe the 2 clubs had an emphasis on this? However, it was noticeable that both clubs had depth and some players could easily be called up to play A grade throughout the year. I found the A grade performances a great game to watch. Real fast-moving game, hard at it and good use of the "one-two's." I do believe the better team won out by about 7-8 goals in Portland, which was noticeable in the skill-level and pressure applied. Number 9 seemed to have the ball on a string for portland throughout the game. However Hectorville had some quality players at both ends of the ground with i think it was number 24 (younger bloke) getting plenty of it up forward and number 2 for the hounds mopping up nicely across half back and showed some real composure consistently throughout. Good luck to both teams throughout the course of this year :D

went and watched the para hills vs season trial yesterday. It's going to be a very long year for parahills. I can only remember PH kicking 2 goals in the A grade and Seaton would of been close to kicking 20. PH having only 19 for the b grade game and 21 for the A grade and i'm pretty sure there where a couple playing both games.

Normal for this time of year to have guys backing up in 2 games. Did B Mc Murray and M Travis play for PH??????
