seaton are very much beatable. i agree that port d are head and shoulders above the rest, but the clubs that finish in the other 4 spots could beat eachother on any given day. Having seen the sides, my opinion is that Modbury is very much the dark horse...

RRR it sounds as though you are involved in Div 2; given that, how would you rate the chances of SHOCS / PHOS making it to prelim final day and possibly beyond??? Am interested...

Jayne - I've seen a fair bit of PHOS & SHOCs living in the area. PHOS are a little down at the moment with injuries but I wouldnt count them out, the season is obviously a marathon not a sprint, but anything can happen in finals especially when u have the experienced talent that they do. SHOCs have a massive few weeks which will tell how they are going, playing Mod, Port and PHOS. They had a heap out against Kilburn inc their 3 captains plus Koster and smashed Kilburn (I wouldnt read a lot into it though!). Jack Juniper was sensational at CHB and in some great form after taking a while to settle into Div 2 coming straight from Freo.
So at this point in time I would say shocs prob are the bigger show out of the two, but anything can happen in finals. PHOS are a prooven Div 2 finals side and i dont think shocs have been in the Div 2 finals since 99. But shocs have a heap of depth that could see them go well in the finals.

Given now that everyone has played each other once we can now start to make firm predictions as to where teams will finish. In my opinion Districts are the bench mark and after that i dont think it is that clear.
Seaton, PHOS, SHOCs and Modbury all have what it takes to get to the GF. But for mine i feel that Modbury will have the wood over the other punters and it will be a Modbury/Districts GF. I am sure the Ramblers will be dissapointed but they might have to spend another year down in Div 2.

Any thoughts?

The Modbury side as it is would get absolutely smashed if it went up to Div 1!! I have always been surprised that SHOC aren't in Div 1 considering the pool of potential players they have.

Division 2 in 2007!

Postby Shirtfront » Tue Jun 19, 2007 2:05 pm

I don't think Modbury will feature too much in September, will make finals but will lose elimination or struggle through to second final. Think they rely too much on thier 'youth and senior mix' too much, the young ones will find out what A1 is about during the finals against seasoned Div 1 yo yo clubs such as Pt Dis, Seat, Phos. And i really think if thats the case, then next year will be a really tough year for the Hawks.

Yeah but who thought the Gullies would be doing so well this year?

Modbury could do the same thing, get there recruit well and be contenders not pretenders!!

Dont think Seaton are all they are cracked up to be. Losing to Pembroke, Modbury has showed this!!

It is a wait and see thing with Modbury but just reckon the older players with the experience are getting to or just passing their prime. Therefore another year of high quality football might damage thier chances, and its always hard to replace quality experience. Plus speaking to some supporters and players they reckon they are sure things to play in the Grand Final, confidence is good but not to that extent, could burn 'em.

I'm sure Districts would love to play them in the Grand Final!! On a dry ground with a full compliment of players I would predict a 10 goal thrashing!! Districts have been through a bit of a form slump the last month, but have still been winning. Saw them play on Saturday and the made PNU look very ordinary!! They have some great senior players down there and come Grand Final day most of their players know Alberton Oval quite well!!

Unless it's a wet day, I'd predict Districts (currently the highest scoring team, with the least amount of points against) to win by at least 30 goals if not more.
