Hope Valley would nearly have a full side of ex junior players playing in div 1 and div 2 and the hills league currently that could easily get the club back up to the higher divisions it should be playing in. When they're 16 or 17 the league clubs push them away from the lower ranked clubs when they don't get selected or if they have a bye and they never come back. Then they develop the "you're in too low a division" mentality, not realising that if they stuck around and played, the club could get higher up and be able to keep these young guns coming through the ranks in the future.
It would only take a few of these young kids to realise this and come back and the last 5 or 6 years would have been a whole lot different. I know that Gepps Cross, Broadview and Birdwood to name a few would be different sides if they lost all their ex Hope Valley boys. Hopefully this year we can push for div 5 and who knows, you might see some old faces start to return. It would be a hard train to stop once it got going...
...and don't worry sharky, we're proud of our club no matter what division we play in!!
Glad to see the passion is still there, don't get me wrong, good club rooms, great lights now, but can't blame kids for trying out at higher clubs, happens to all clubs. Why don't they want to come back??? Is it a culture thing????
