Means more people are on the field playing.
Also means GG's 2nd rate players get to play against a couple of their best players.

GG would still have won by 25 goals so no impact on their ladder possie.

Having said that, the fact that GG didn't take the opportunity to get 20 of their guys on the field and give a chance for their lesser players to develop is ultimately their choice. Not sure it warrants a cry on the forums.

This scenario plays out in most country leagues, yet you city folk just don't seem to get it.

Personal stats still count, once played with a bloke who kicked 17 goals in the game, 9for his usual team and 7 for the opposition.

Not sure about other country leagues but the Hills Football League have a fair play rule where both teams have to start the game with even numbers, even if it means 16 a side. This applies to all junior grades, which is up to U17's.
If the team with more players refuse to help then they can only use even numbers & no interchange.
If the team with less players refuse the help then the team with more players can play uneven numbers & use interchanges.

Perfect timing for this thread to be raised. Read the following and we will all understand.

Hello,

My name is Tricia Clark and my son Brayden plays for the Lonsdale Lions in the under 16s. Today they played against Happy Valley and I just wanted to pass on some thoughts that I and a few other parents of Lonsdale had. Firstly, I saw at least 5 of the HVFC players in our tops playing on our side. We are very grateful for those boys because without them we wouldn't have a game. Those 5 boys also played really well tackling their own team mates and doing the best for our club. We knew we were going to lose as that seems to be the pattern for now but I also noticed that all of your players were very fair. Too often we vs teams that aren't happy enough with winning, they like to play dirty and often throw punches and do other unsavoury stuff. Yet our boys go out there week after week giving it their best. What a refreshing change it was for us and them to be up against such a decent club. So this email is to thank you all (and I hope it gets passed on). Not only that though. I was floored when the HVFC coach asked if he could have a talk with our boys. He told them that they played a really great game, he knows that they do it tough every week and HVFC are very lucky to be where they are. He encouraged our boys to never give up and to do it for our club.
I don't know his name but I hope this also gets passed on to him. Just quietly, a couple of us parents had tears in our eyes.

So well done to the HVFC. You display ethical behaviour and great sportsmanship. The HVFC under 16s boys did your club proud today, as did their coach. A reflection of a well organised club based on decency and the true meaning of football.

Thank you again,

Tricia Clark

Well done JC and well done boys, you have done the club proud.

I think it is fair enough you cop a flogging from time to time, and in u14s the kids are probably old enough to handle it and learn something from it. 41 goals to 1 is pretty extreme though.

But who benefits at all playing 18 v 16 when its going to be a flogging anyway!? Common sense and sportsmanship says even up the numbers. Poor form.

Not sure if it was all that clear, but as I read it IF had 18 to start with then went down to 16 5 minutes in, was this the case?

I think the major underlying concern here is the increasing rise in fuel prices and cost of living. If Wang-Wang and Funi had been breeding in the Adelaide Zoo would we be having this problem?

If a tree falls in a wood and no one is around, does it make a sound?

was involved in coaching under 14's in the SFL for about three years. In the last season, we struggled for numbers and finished 11th or 12th out of 14 teams. Other clubs generally offered to supplement our squad to either give their kids more of a run and or so we could both field 18 on the park.

HVFC particuarly stood out. One day during school holidays our 14th player rolled up late and we needed to forfeit. They sent over their best four players and we played a scratchie. We ended up winning that day and their players always joined our huddles and sang the song at the end of the game.
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

Why didnt GG take 2 players off and make it 16 v 16. Its not like they were going to lose. Anyway what are GG going to get out of belting a side with 2 extra players nothing. Show a little bit of compassion and make the game somewhat competitive.
Also if they gave them a couple of players the players that went over would enjoy dishing it up to their own teammate. i know i wouldv loved to beat my own teammate to the ball and show him up abit.

I tend to think that it is better to show your opposition respect and play to your best. If that means you give them a belting then so be it, as an opponent I would rather be smashed off the field than have them cocking around like idiots.

Nothing worse than losing when the opposition is treating it like a joke, fortunately I havn't experienced it much, but have been in teams where we have been up against pretty weak opposition and the old backs go forward or everyone kick a goal comes in. That is more arrogant and disrespectful, never seems right singing the song after those games.

I umpired an under 17 game last season where one team was winning by so much that a player was running down the wing and his team-mate laid a perfect tackle on him, I didn't know what to do.

We can jump on our high morale horses and comment/suggest/insinuate what we believe is best and the right thing to do etc but I guess we can't fully appreciate how these kids are feeling or what they are experiencing personally.

I mean we have all been involved in thrashing, but everyone deals with it differently - I personally had no issue and strangely preferred to be on the receiving end of a 30 goal thumping than on the winning end because i always felt like I was working harder and trying for something whereas winning by that margin was well boring..

Anyone this is what one of the u/14's kids in that Ingle Farm side has said on the matter:

It's ruins us even more that teams are just mucking around with the ball hand balling over our heads streaming into goal having a good old laugh while we're there wondering what the hell has happened.

Everyone says keep your heads up to us. From a players point of view , how can we?
And all the other clubs show so much disrespect to us after they have just finished thumping us most don't even shake hands after a game. All of us are heart broken and don't even really feel like playing every Sunday.

To his credit he also wrote this though:

I liked the idea of playing reds, it was always going to be a challenge in reds :? ( never new this would happen )
But it's only going to make us better footballers.
So I really hope everyone stays because I would love to go through the next 2 years and seniors with you lads at ingle farm!
And don't let this year drag you to a different club :(
