i think that clubs will have a lot of hard work ahead to meet budgets next season. pockets will get deeper and arms shorter as things get tighter on the home monetary front. just hope clubs have not over committed themselves on player payments.

As choccies said, our mexican night was an absolute belter last year.

The theme nights seem to work really well. I put alot of work in to getting that one up an going last year and a few more ideas have been floated about another one or two.

The poker nights are a good idea but ours fell over last year. We are thinking of trying to revamp it this year with a Las vegas theme. Poker tables, lucky wheels etc. Having the extra element of dressing up for the occasion i find gets more people involved.

Talent night was fun and we are working on some bands this year as well.

Gents night and ladies night do well for us. Last year the ladies took more interest in the players seving drinks than the hired entertainment. Lucky squares and Thursday night 'bottle of grog' raffle do well also.

We use to do a "Night at the races" 4 races of 6 horses in each race. 2 large dice roll one dice for the horse no. other for how many squares they move. Good fun, you auction the horses off before each race and run a book, Ladies get involved too.

"Mouse Cup" is a great night. Our club cleared $5000, which I think is good going. Plenty of scope for fundraising like auctioning mice, charging to have your business as a race sponsor, gate charge with additional charge if you run out of 'mouse dollars', plus bar takings. Its a no brainer and you'll enjoy the "Mouse Cup Hurdle". Classic stuff.

Find a good winery and buy a reasonable clean skin and sell them by the box. Scotch do it and make plenty

You aren't allowed to make money from holding a poker tournament, all entrance money has to be paid out in prizemoney for it to be legal.

You risk a $10,000 fine and loss of liquor license, you're better off doing it at someone's house or making it a closed door event.

Yes, for most, the bar is the biggest money maker, so it's important to make sure it is well patronised during the year.

However, if you can aquire memorabilia, auctions and raffles of them can work out pretty well. Just have to get my missus to relinquish that cricket ball signed by Warney...

Exactly, we had a poker tourney at our club 2 weeks ago, as a fundraising stunt, we auctioned off wax-strips and waxed the hairiest bloke in the club, made a few hundred dollars out of and it was a huge laugh for all but one person.
