All SAAFL clubs, players & officials should be highly respected until such time as they do something unsavoury and people lose their respect of them as a result. Got absolutely nothing to do with gradings or win/loss ratio. They still pay their SAAFL calls, umpires money etc and deserve praise, not condescending comments like yours.

I second Quichey on the Seagulls comment.

ok ok I accept defeat gracefully. My own assesment may have been a little harsh given your circumstances and where you have come back from.

the second half starts again this week and the challengers pile up
we have had a good start to the year but their is still heaps of room for improvement
our biggest problem seems to be the unavailable players due to injury, work or family commitments
out of 54 registered players this season we now have the following
overseas 4
getting ready to go overseas 8
injured 5
work 4
drunk 1
drunk and awol 5

we really need a good start to the second half to keep going in the right direction
haveing lost two important players to injury in cookie and moorey has really had a hit on our leadership
we really need these two back to help with the guidance of the young blokes and i wish them both luck in their recoveries
a great challenge this year has now become even a bigger one but looking forward to it
we stand as one
we fight as one
we win and lose as one

Where off to port districts this week for the start of the second half of the season
we are well placed to tackle the second half but their are roughly 13 changes to the side that took them on in round 1
like angle vale and others we have alot of armed forces playing for us and we struggle to keep them more than a couple of weeks at a time
we loose roughly 14 in one go for four weeks soon so every game has to be played like its our last
been an interesting first half at my new home and sure its only going to keep that way
we have taken on all the struggles and so far i am happy with where we are at but still plenty of room for improvement

I think there would still be some people out there that don't respect the ovingham football club but not because of where there playing but because what the ovingham football club once was. Going back a few years ago it was a almost certain that someone would be hit when playing them. From what I have read on here DeeMan has changed that culture and deserve the same respect as any other team in the SAAFL. To have 1 player at the start of the preseason to now having 54 at the half way mark can only mean one thing, someone that is passionate about the club and was willing to put in the hard yards to make the club to stand proud. Yes they might have a few players that some might think they should be player higher but the club is going through a rebuilding stage and if they players are here to say and want to take this club further I say good on them. it's not like there like flinders park and having sudja cook playing c grade footy when the guy could play in any a grade team in the league if he wanted to. I look at ovies as a new club got a new coach new playing group and are doing great things on the field and hopefuly off the field as well, I would like to see them field 2 sides in the comming years and Div7, I think it would be great for the club and make it more succesful then it has already become this year.
We're on this journey together, One Heart, One Club and they will Never Ever Tear Us Apart.

ventured out to port districts and came away with a good win
the match was actually a well fought out game and the port guys should be congratulated on never giving up and playing it hard right to the final siren
it took along time to get going after the bye but once up and running, the cobwebs blown out the lads looked alright but one of the highlights that impresses me was the hard tackling, blocking and the talk
the day didnt start off well with five players dropping out with no notice and this is not what our club is about
that will be rectified during the week
the second half of the season will be a slog to the end and we are looking forward to the challengers ahead

their of cause be different line ups with alot mjore at stake now since they are sitting second and we are third trying to consolidate our place in the five
with the majority of army lads now on courses or about to imbark on them its a great time for the rest of the club to stand up and be counted

after a good effort to get back in the game last week this week is going to be a hard affair
we are now looking at 29 players unavailable due to a number of reasons
at this stage no one coming in so our depth is going to really be tested

good game in hard conditions yesterday
both sides were limited because of the lack of players but the game was played in great spirits
we recieved a couple of bad injuries that will see two players out for upto 6 weeks
hopefully we start getting some back soon but the guys we put on the park yesterday all played their role and we had a good win
special mention to PNU
their lads tried hard all day and never gave in and were able to keep their consentration and discipline even when the game was over
also a big thankyou to the umpires
absolutely brilliant
its a pity umpires from the higher divisions dont take a leaf out of our two umpires books yesterday
they saw that the conditions were not the best so umpired to the conditions and the playing ability of the players
they were consistent and explained their points very well
well done lads

Extremely big shoes to fill talent and commitment wise. Would be great to have blokes like that playing along side you every week but will wish them all the best and hope they return home safely after their deployment.

Going to be a tough few weeks coming up for the Cats, will really test the resolve of the club and probably the biggest challenge the club has faced since it first started fighting to field a full side again this year.

Watching todays game was nothing short of frustrating and disappointing - the players lacked desire and intent.

Lads need to get out to training, tidy up the simpler but more important facets of the game i.e keeping their feet, clean pick up, sticking tackles and understanding where they need to position themselves on the field and in contests not only to give themselves the best chance of winning the ball, but to nullify the oppositions influence.

this is what i posted on the ovingham football club site tonight
i am absolutely disgusted and embarressed by todays preformance, effort and the circumstances about today

\today was the darkest day in my time at ovies
to loose is never easy ,it happens to all sides, but the way in which you loose and the reasons you loose are two seperate things

RESPECT,RESPECT,RESPECT

it is everything in footy and life
when you dont respect the opposition, you dont respect yourself
when you dont respect the game, you dont respect yourself
when you dont respect your team mates and club, you dont respect yourself

to have 8 guys pull out in the morning of a game because they are intoxicated, locked up or both or just cant be bothered you will never get any where
in life or in the game
the next three to four weeks are going to be hard for the club
but it is not the win/loss ratio that i am concerned about but the way in which we conduct ourselves and represent the club
i am trying to teach a club and a young list the values of life and footy
to some clubs and players that mighten sound to be my job but when you are creating a culture from the ashes this is the best and only way to start
if the club and the players are not prepaired to work hard at this, and that goes for myself and the supporters,i am the wrong person to be in charge
think about what you want and what direction you want to go in

DeeMan may i asked you expected when you took over the job? Did we expect fully committed blokes who wouldn't let you down at all or a bunch of guys who will turn up then it suits then and when you are going well?

I admire the job you are doing but if the guys are not committed to the big picture and you have to do just about ever role at the club it is a lot of work.

Too not have a trainer or umpires sounds like you are paddle down the creek without a paddle. Good luck but.

I think I agree.

I only know about Ovingham from what is posted on this forum and clearly you are very passionate about the club and have made significant strides forward this year. However, if you do every job at the club and have basically no one else willing to volunteer and you are doing it for players (bit of a generalisation) who appear not to share your passion, surely would feel like your banging your head up against a brick wall. How long are you willing to persist like this?

I can imagine how much of a kick in the guts it would have been when the group of players you mentioned let you down like that after all the effort you have put in for them.

Never in 17 seasons of footy have I been so disappointed with a game of footy. I dont envy deemans position trying to juggle his team so close to the start of the game. I wasnt supposed to play due to personal commitments but luckily had my footy gear in the car to help deeman but probably put in what was personally my own most disappointing game. I hope its a wake up call to all players that although it is amatuer league you should still turn up in reasonable condition out of pure respect not only to yourself but to everyone involved in making a match happen.

Have the wheels fallen off and the axle finally broken at Ovingham.
A great effort by Dee Man but the question still remains is the club a viable enity. With players not turning up and not being serious about thier game and the Dee Man having to do everything one wonders how long they can last?

Is the writing on the wall at the end of the season?????
