Anyone see the game?

Didnt get to see the game but The oval was all that divided the 2 sides IMO
The bigger oval suits Walkerville while the smaller oval suits SMOSH more.

Would SMOSH be disapointed in the end result for them?
Blokes I had spoken to during the season were talking about going straight back up.
IMO smosh should have stuck it out in div 2 this season and could have built on that and had a crack in 2010.
Now they will have to wait till 2011 or possibly later!

In hindsight, you can say that Fisty. Would have they had the side this year to stay up in ? - maybe, but history now.

I would think SMOSH have a good base and depth of players to be around the mark again next year.

Thats what I meant, they have a good enough base to have been competitive and possibly stay up, leavign them to continue building for the season after!

I dont think there side would have differed much at all, Did you guys have many new recruits this season Schimma??
I dont think there was many from the names I seen running around!!

no recruits from other clubs just 2 returned from work. lost a few to overseas tours and long term injuries. if we stayed in div 2 like i have said plenty of times before the club would have not survived financially. we have had a good year off the field and are all looking forward to next year already (even thou we will all be at the C grade grand final this week). The club is looking forward to a new start with a new coach after Anthony Forby decided not to go on for personal reasons. The club thanks Forba for a great 4 years service to club wishes him all the best for him and his family in the future.

No problems with it at all. Entirely up to the team who won - if they win, they can sing it where they like.

If the losing side need to hear the opposition's song as motivation for next time, then they have other issues to worry about.

Never once in over 200 games of footy has the opposition singing their song on the oval bothered me - i dont like hearing it, as it meant we lost obviously, but i dont begrudge them for singing it.

Why worry about what the opponent is doing, get onto worrying about the reasons they are singing it in the first place !!!

Don't be so melodramatic Felch. No where in my post did it say a club needed to hear the opposition's song as motivation, all I said was why would you give the team the chance of having extra ammunition next time. It seems opinions are divided on the issue but I for one don't rate it. Sing the song, enjoy it, but no need to rub the opposition's nose in it on their home ground.

PS. Walkerville didn't do it on the weekend, it's just something that's been giving me the irrits for a while.

Richmond Oval this saturday, I think it's a 2.15 or 2.30 start.

Are they doing a div 3 team of the year again this year in the footy budget? Anyone willing to give it a shot?

I wouldn't know enough teams and players in the division to do one myself.

Well you would think the 3 PH forwards, plus Thacy on a wing.
Iggies you would probably go with Tyson and Frinsdorf
SPOC Cantwell, Beinke
Portland - Perkins would either lead the ruck or be on the bench
Mitcham - McEvoy?

Just to name a few and get the ball rolling...

Don't think anyone from our club will get a gig after the year we've had. Scotty McPherson was probably our most consistsent, but would be fighting for a spot in the middle against some of the best in the comp. Shaun Rowe in a back pocket has been awesome for a teenager as well, but doesn't get a lot of public attention and will probably miss out too. Those guys would be our best chances I would think, but I'm not getting my hopes up for them.

You would think the league medallist (Kilsby) would get in. So would that Netschitowski from SMOSH.

(these are the top 2 votegetters - although we all know how bad the umpires are...)

Beinke ? I would think you could put in 6-7 other SPOC players before him. I dont think he actually played that many games, missed most of the first half of the season. Lipson probably played as many games as him, averaged 3.8 goals a game in a side that only won 6 games and there's no way he would get in.

Rayner from Woody South and Doyle from Mitcham both would be in with a show.

I didn't see any Walkies games this year but Greeny is as good a big man as you will find at A3 level. Can't think of too many ruckman who would get the better of him in this grade (although Walkies seemed to want to play him up forward in the past).
